Jurgen Klopp's agent has claimed both Man United and Chelsea approached the German manager after he left Liverpool in 2024

Manchester United and Chelsea both approached Jurgen Klopp to become their manager after he left Liverpool, according to his agent.

The German departed the Reds in 2024 to take a break from management, and later took up a role as head of soccer at the Red Bull group.

But his agent says Klopp was subject to interest from two Premier League giants – claims rejected by Man United and Chelsea – and could have had the USA or England jobs if he had wanted.

‘Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the USA or England,’ said Klopp’s long-term representative Marc Kosicke in an interview with German website Transfermarkt.

‘Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been there.

‘Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These enquiries keep coming.’

‘He’s extremely happy with what he’s achieved,’ added Kosicke. ‘And it’s still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who only managed three clubs and were never fired.’

When approached for comment, both Chelsea and Manchester United denied the agent’s claims.

Klopp has only returned to Anfield for one match since he stepped down – he stated he did not want to distract from Arne Slot – and this was after Liverpool had won the Premier League title at the end of last season.

He is set to manage a Liverpool Legends team in a charity match against his other former club Borussia Dortmund, with Sir Kenny Dalglish also in the dugout.
