Liverpool ‘are set to bring physio Christopher Rohrbeck back to offset injury worries in their quadruple bid’ after issues with key trio Fabinho, Salah and Van Dijk… with the Dutch defender previously praising his work in the medical setup

  • Christopher Rohrbeck was at Liverpool for three years from 2017 until 2020
  • In that time, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk worked closely alongside him
  • Now, he could imminently return to his role as a physio in Liverpool’s setup

Jurgen Klopp has moved to bring a physio back to Liverpool with whom Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have previously enjoyed a close relationship with.

According to The Athletic, Christopher Rohrbeck’s return to Anfield is imminent in a move where Klopp has been the driving force amid his side’s push to win the quadruple. The publication adds that Rohrbeck’s impending return has been welcomed by the Liverpool squad.

Rohrbeck worked for Liverpool for three years, from 2017 until 2020, with Klopp bringing him in from Mainz where he had worked for 14 years. He left to return to his native Germany but now an Anfield comeback is on the cards.

Liverpool took a major step towards a clean sweep of trophies by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Sunday to add to the Carabao Cup that they won in February.

They face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League on May 28 and need to win both their remaining Premier League matches against Southampton and Wolves, while hoping rivals Manchester City drop points against Aston Villa on Sunday.

But key men Salah and Van Dijk both went off injured in Liverpool’s FA Cup final victory, joining key midfielder Fabinho on the sidelines. The Brazil international hurt his hamstring last week away to Aston Villa.

Van Dijk was substituted at the end of 90 minutes with Chelsea after feeling a twinge in his knee. Salah, meanwhile, was forced off with a groin issue in the first half of the match at Wembley.

Both are expected to miss Tuesday’s must-win encounter with Southampton but there is confidence they will be fit for the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28.

Van Dijk singled Rohrbeck out for special praise at the end of Liverpool’s Premier League winning season in 2019-20.

‘It’s never easy to keep yourself fit. I try to look after myself,’ Van Dijk said after Liverpool finished that campaign with a 3-1 win over Newcastle.

‘A lot of credit has to go to Christopher Rohrbeck, our physio who is sadly leaving us. He has been outstanding for me.’

The Athletic also reports that Klopp stepped up his efforts to bring Rohrbeck back after Fabinho was hurt in the win at Villa.

The Rohrbeck move could also be interpreted by Liverpool fans as a positive signal in the club’s negotiations with Salah over a new contract.

As it stands, the Egypt star’s current terms are up at the end of next season and despite talks ongoing, a deal has yet to be struck.
