Man United and Chelsea are considering a sensational swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho and Christopher Nkunku, according to a report.

Both players have not been at their best for their respective clubs this season, and have been earmarked with moves away.

Mail Sport reported on Thursday that Chelsea are set to make a formal offer for Garnacho and have a clear run at signing him with Napoli switching their attention to Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi.

Chelsea made their opening enquiries last week with United looking for £65million for the 20-year-old.

Napoli have made offers varying from £45m to £50m but have now opened parallel negotiations with Adeyemi and will likely only sign one wide player this month.

Meanwhile, Mail Sport also revealed that Nkunku has grown frustrated at his lack of game time with the Blues and that he could be offloaded to Bayern Munich.

No final decision on a swap deal between Garnacho and Nkunku has been made by either United or Chelsea, but it is an idea that has been discussed, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Garnacho’s agents Carlos Cambeiro and Quique de Lucas were at Chelsea’s game with Wolves on Monday and are open to their client making the move to London.

After United snatched a late winner against Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday, Ruben Amorim remained coy on the topic of Garnacho’s future.

‘I don’t know what will happen,’ he said. ‘Let’s focus on the team and the players that we have here.

‘We don’t know what can happen until the window closes. Anything can happen.’

He added: ‘I’m focused on the games and he’s here, he’s a player for Manchester United. He was really important for us today and let’s see in the next days.’

As he qualifies as a homegrown player, Garnacho’s sale would give United clear profit and greater room for manoeuvre under PSR guidelines, especially as they face the prospect of not qualifying for the Champions League and pressure to hit rulings.

Meanwhile, Mail Sport understands that Chelsea want more than £60m if they are to sell Nkunku this month.

The similarity in Garnacho’s and Nkunku’s respective valuations make a swap deal look like an even more intriguing approach.

Between them, both players have logged a combined five goals in the Premier League this season; three for Garnacho and two for Nkunku.

Garnacho has started 11 out of United’s 22 games this season – just over 50 per cent – while Nkunku has made just three starts for Chelsea.

A switch-up in environments may just be what both players need in order to rediscover their best form.
