United could move for Karim Adeyemi amid a public fallout with Dortmund boss Niko Kovac

Karim Adeyemi’s future at Borussia Dortmund is clouded by uncertainty, and reports in Germany suggest Man United could be positioning themselves to pounce.

The 23-year-old attacker is encountering problems both on and off the pitch. Having failed to score or assist since late September, Adeyemi’s relationship with boss Niko Kovac has frayed – leading to a public fallout.

On October 25, Adeyemi launched a water bottle at the bench when he was substituted during Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Koln, behaviour Kovac publicly condemned.

‘I think that’s unnecessary,’ he said. ‘It’s okay that he can be angry sometimes, but that’s unnecessary, he’s an adult.’

Then, during Dortmund’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Hamburg over the weekend, a frustrated Kovac could be seen visibly agitated by Adeyemi’s decision making. He was substituted on the 66th minute.

And according to Bild, discussions regarding Adeyemi’s future are in full swing. The youngster’s contract expires in 2027 and his entourage are demanding a long-term extension with a release clause valued at £70million.

Dortmund typically do not include release clauses in contracts, but the report suggests that an exception could be made in Adeyemi’s case.

United have reportedly been alerted to the German’s situation. Adeyemi has recently enlisted superagent Jorge Mendes’s services, with the Portuguese maintaining excellent contacts at Old Trafford.

Mendes, who has facilitated United’s moves for Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte, seemingly holds the key for a switch from Dortmund to Manchester for the attacker.

Ruben Amorim invested heavily in his attack over the summer, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko for a combined £214m.

Adeyemi has scored 29 goals and provided 22 assists across 121 appearances for Bundesliga outfit Dortmund.
