Real Betis are set to make an approach for Manchester United outcast Antony in the coming days

Manchester United outcast Antony is hoping Real Betis make progress in their bid to re-sign him over the next 24 hours.

Betis are planning to put forward a new proposal on Monday after their initial attempt at a loan deal earlier in summer was dismissed.

The Brazilian has found himself surplus to requirements at Old Trafford this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to re-shape his side for his first full season in charge.

Antony did not start a single Premier League game for United last season and following Amorim’s appointment in November was confined solely to cameos off the bench.

In January Antony was loaned out to the LaLiga club and quickly established himself as a key member of Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

In his first weeks at the club the 25-year-old was nominated for the LaLiga Player of the Month award and he went on to score five league goals and contribute two assists across 15 starts.

Antony was also integral to Betis reaching their first-ever European final as he netted in their 4-3 win over Fiorentina.

The club then faced Chelsea in the Conference League final, losing 4-1 in Wroclaw to Enzo Maresca’s side.

In May Betis president Angel Haro revealed that plans were in place to try and keep Antony at the club beyond the summer.

Pellegrini has also spoken of his fondness for the former Ajax star but insisted the ball is in United’s court in terms of getting the deal over the line.

‘I’ve not spoken with Antony,’ Pellegrini said on Thursday. ‘We all know that he was very good here, we want him with us, and Antony wants to return no doubt.

‘But we also need the owner, which is Manchester United, to make a decision.’

Fenerbahce have also shown interest but Antony would prefer Betis.
