The Ivorian raised eyebrows on Monday when he deleted all references to the Red Devils from his X, previously Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

The Ivorian – who has a contract at Old Trafford until 2025 – raised eyebrows on Monday when he deleted all references to the Red Devils from his X, previously Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

The timing of the purging comes amid a season of frustration for the 21-year-old who has played a bit-part role at best under Erik ten Hag.

He was expected to force his way into the Dutchman’s thinking following a hugely successful loan spell in the Championship with Sunderland last season, when he registered 14 goals and four assists.

However, that has not transpired so far, with the winger have made just three appearances this term – all as a substitute. Furthermore two of those have come in the Premier League, across 46 minutes, since returning to fitness in December after suffering a knee injury in pre-season.

On Monday, Diallo took the pointed decision to expunge his social media accounts of any information relating to his current employers. His account on X, formerly Twitter, also includes the line in his bio ‘tout cela finira’, which translates to ‘this will all end’.

And now in a short statement, he has explained his reasons behind his social-media clearout.

Taking to Snapchat to post a story, Diallo tried to defuse any possible tension: ‘I’ve deactivated my social media for a month just to focus on Ramadan.

‘Stop the hatred, there’s nothing wrong with what I did. It’s holy month for me and social media is a place where there are bad things to see during fasting.’

Diallo was an unused substitute on Saturday as he watched fellow winger Alejandro Garnacho win two penalties that were dispatched by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to hand United a much-needed 2-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League.

He will be hoping to get some minutes on Sunday in a mouthwatering FA Cup quarter-final showdown with Liverpool.
