Marc Guehi delivered a pointed message after Crystal Palace’s first ever European win on Thursday night.

His remark came amid intensifying speculation over his future at Selhurst Park.

Liverpool are keen to sign the England defender before the end of the window and chairman Steve Parish has admitted the club may have to sell if the right bid comes in.

Guehi, 25, has less than a year left on his contract and Palace want around £45million, though Liverpool consider that figure steep given he could leave for free next summer. Talks are expected to continue in the coming days, with Arne Slot’s champions eager to line up a long-term successor for Virgil van Dijk.

At full time, Guehi was picked out by Channel 5’s cameras as he saluted supporters. With a wry smile, he turned to the lens and said: ‘There’s other players you know.’

The comment was delivered in good jest as he waved to the stands, but it carried a clear message, with Guehi keen to shift attention back onto his team-mates on a night when speculation about his own future was unavoidable.

Guehi joined from Chelsea in 2021 and has since made more than 158 appearances, wearing the armband through a year of unprecedented success for Palace.

He lifted the FA Cup in May and added the Community Shield earlier this month by beating Liverpool at Wembley.

On Thursday, his Palace colleagues delivered another famous win.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half to give Palace a 1-0 first-leg lead, with the return in Norway to come next week.

The night also underlined the looming departure of Eberechi Eze, who is on the verge of sealing a £60million move to Arsenal.

The playmaker was missing from the line-up despite being expected to start, with head coach Oliver Glasner revealing pre-match that Eze phoned on the morning of the game to say he felt unwell.

‘I expected he would start today,’ the Austrian admitted. ‘But he called me this morning and said he doesn’t feel well. Of course I have to accept it.

‘We don’t like to change the XI on matchday, especially in this situation when it’s the first time of European football for Crystal Palace. But we have to deal with it in the best way.’

The 26-year-old, who joined from QPR in 2020 and has blossomed into an England international, is set to become Arsenal’s latest major signing in the coming days.

His tearful reaction after being withdrawn at Chelsea last weekend was widely interpreted as a farewell and the Selhurst Park crowd made their appreciation clear again on Thursday with chants and banners in his honour.
