Martin Braithwaite’s agent slams reports linking the Barcelona striker with a move to Wolves

Martin Braithwaite’s agent Hasan Cetinkaya has slammed reports linking the striker with a move to Wolves and launched a furious attack on super agent Jorge Mendes.

Wolves have been offered the chance to sign the Barcelona forward, with the LaLiga club looking to sell players due to their on-going financial problems.

Reports in Spain suggested Mendes, who has connections with the Premier League club, is involved in a potential deal. Cetinkaya insisted Mendes has nothing to do with his client and said he had no business getting involved in the futures of Barcelona’s players.

‘Everything’s s***, all these stories are false,’ he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo

‘Jorge Mendes has nothing to do with Martin Braithwaite. Jorge Mendes has no players at Barcelona. He can focus on Wolves, but I take care of my players at Barcelona.

‘Martin Braithwaite plays for the biggest club in the world and works with one of the most important coaches in the world. From day one until now, he’s exceeded expectations in terms of playing time and wellbeing at the club, and he’s very happy.

‘He was one of the best players at the European Championship with incredible statistics, and he’ll continue with Barcelona.’

Braithwaite joined Barca in 2020 after the Catalans were granted an emergency transfer due to injuries.

The Denmark international has scored eight goals in 53 appearances. He is under contract until 2024.

Braithwaite could see his first-team opportunities reduced following the signings of  Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay from Manchester City and Lyon respectively.

Barca need to make significant player sales this summer in order to reduce the wage bill so they can register both Aguero and Depay.

The club have exceeded LaLiga’s strict salary cap limit so are not able to register any new signings until that total is brought back under an acceptable level.

Barcelona will also need to re-register club captain and talisman Lionel Messi, who is without a club at present but is widely expected to sign a new five-year deal at the Camp Nou later this summer, taking a 50 per cent wage cut in the process.

Wolves have been on the lookout for a striker to help provide competition for Raul Jimenez, who also just returned to first-team action for the Midlands club this week after being sidelined for nearly eight months with a fractured skull.

The Mexican forward has not featured competitively since picking up the serious injury against Arsenal on November 29, but did start the club’s pre-season friendly at Crewe on Saturday.

Teenage striker Fabio Silva only scored four goals for Wolves last season as the back-up option to Jimenez, with new head coach Bruno Lage needing to find alternative firepower to the returning 30-year-old striker in his first season at Molineux.
