Mikel Arteta has warned his Arsenal side can still get better after beating Bayern Munich

Mikel Arteta watched his Arsenal team leave Bayern Munich’s unbeaten record in tatters at the Emirates and warned that his young side can still get better.

Goals from Jurrien Timber, Noni Madueke and Garbriel Martinelli helped Arsenal sweep Bayern aside 3-1 and end a run without defeat for the German champions that had stretched back all season.

‘This was an incredible match against the best team in Europe,’ said Arsenal boss Arteta.

‘We were immense, how hard we worked. The margins are tight but this is a massive victory.

‘We have been very consistent all season but it’s just the beginning. The energy and quality we bring, we have to maintain that every three days.

‘Bayern were unbeaten in so many games. What we did shows the capacity we have. We have learned from the past and we are better now.’

Arsenal enjoyed a perfect night as Arteta’s substitutions had an impact and captain Martin Odegaard also appeared for the last ten minutes, his first football since early October.

The Gunners now face a top of the table clash at Chelsea on Sunday and Arteta said: ‘The impact of the subs was immense.

‘I was very happy when I look at the bench. They can come in and change the game.

‘We know what a good team Chelsea are. Now we have to prepare.’
