Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes is expected to be out for two months with a hamstring injury

Newcastle have suffered a major injury blow with Bruno Guimaraes expected to be ruled out for two months with a hamstring injury.

The Newcastle captain pulled up in the closing stages of their 2-1 win over Tottenham in midweek.

Eddie Howe confirmed on Friday that the club were waiting to discover the full extent of Guimaraes’ injury.

Guimaraes is now set to miss around eight weeks of action, which could rule him out of around 10 matches.

This would include the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland next month.

Guimaraes would also be absent for Newcastle’s upcoming Champions League play-off against Qarabag, as well as potential last-16 ties should they beat the Azeri champions.

Newcastle have failed to win any of their 10 Premier League matches in which Guimaraes has not featured since his debut for the club back in February 2022.

The midweek win over Tottenham had been Guimaraes’s second match back after a spell out with an ankle injury.

Howe had confirmed on Friday that fellow midfielder Lewis Miley will miss their FA Cp tie against Aston Villa on Saturday with a dead leg.

Joelinton is also expected to be absent, but Howe confirmed the Brazilian is not far away from returning from a groin injury.
