Maupay’s arrival would take Forest’s summer spend well beyond the £100m mark.
They also still want Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White while Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven, who is on Manchester United’s list, is also on the club’s shopping list.
The Premier League newcomers have held talks with Lyon over a £15m offer for their highly-rated midfielder Houssem Aouar.

Freuler played 43 games in all competitions for Atalanta last season, as the Italian side finished eighth in the league in what was a disappointing league campaign.
The 30-year-old has also made 46 senior appearances for Switzerland, scoring four goals since his debut in 2017.
Forest earned their first Premier League win of the season on Sunday, beating West Ham 1-0 at the City Ground.
