The best 10 players of the Premier League so far this season have been revealed by Opta

Stats boffins at Opta have revealed the 10 best players of the Premier League season so far – but no one from champions and league leaders Liverpool makes the cut.

The top flight has been afforded the chance to pause for breath over the next fortnight, with the first international break of the campaign arriving to give at least some players a weekend off.

It’s so far been a season that has thrown up twists and turns that have culminated in Liverpool beating Arsenal, who were their closest title rivals last season.

Despite that, the Reds arguably haven’t been great. They conceded twice against Bournemouth on the opening day, before narrowly getting past Newcastle, despite their opponents playing most of the match with 10 men.

And that, according to Opta, has resulted in no Liverpool player making the cut for the top 10 players in the league so far this term.

A Chelsea player is top of the list, with four Blues stars included in total. Players from Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Manchester United and Everton also make the cut.

The standings are decided by ‘Opta points’, which are defined as a metric that measure contribution to games via actions such as goals, tackles, and goal conceded.

Opta say players who complete a full game will typically end up with totals between 10 and 40 points – and the player at the top of the tree averages 31.7 so far.

That player is Chelsea defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo, who has accumulated 95.2 Opta points this season to date, making him the best player in the Premier League so far this season.

Second to Caicedo, meanwhile, is Elliot Anderson, who has also just earned his first England call-up. The midfielder has rocked up 89.8 Opta points so far, despite Nottingham Forest’s tough start to the season, having been an ever-present.

And just behind Anderson is Caicedo’s Chelsea team-mate Trevoh Chalobah. Following his loan spell at Crystal Palace at the start of last season, the centre back has been a reliable option for Enzo Maresca at the back and has started the season in good form.

As well as being part of a defence that has conceded just one goal in three games, Chalobah scored in the 5-1 rout of West Ham and has picked up 89 Opta points thus far.

Behind the top three are Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham with 87.8 Opta points, Bruno Fernandes with 84.2 and Lucas Paqueta with 80.2.

Then comes another two Blues players in Enzo Fernandez (75.6), Joao Pedro (72.4), following by Erling Haaland on 69.4 and Jack Grealish with 68.8.

Liverpool signed a number of new players in the transfer window, with the likes of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike arriving for large fees.

The likes of Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah remain, however, but Salah in particular has had a quiet start to the campaign with just one goal and one assist to his name so far.

The Reds will continue their season with a trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley in their first match after the international break.
