Chelsea and Real Madrid are considering an approach for Raheem Sterling and believe he is ready to quit Manchester City, according to reports.

The 74-cap England forward won another Premier League title with City last season and played 47 times in all competitions, scoring 17 goals, but has not always been first-choice at the Etihad.

And as stated by the Telegraph, several European heavyweights increasingly feel Sterling is open to leaving the club – despite not yet revealing his intentions about his future.

Chelsea are said to be one of the teams keen on signing him, with Spanish giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid ramping up their interest too. City may prefer to avoid selling to a direct Premier League rival.

Bayern Munich is thought to be a potential destination if their move for Liverpool’s Sadio Mane collapses.

Sterling’s contract expires in 2023, meaning Pep Guardiola’s side could sell him this summer to avoid losing him for nothing, but the club may demand as much as £50-60million for him.

The 27-year-old, who wants to have a key role in a team challenging for trophies, admitted in October he could leave due to a lack of playing time, and paused talks with the club about his future to see if the situation changed.

Despite starting 23 of City’s 38 league games last campaign, he was on the bench for several key matches, including both legs of their Champions League semi-final defeat against Real Madrid.

The signings of forwards Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, plus more game time for Jack Grealish in his second season, could further restrict his playing time.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is believed to be prioritising defensive signings after the departure of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers, but wants to add goals and assists to his forward line too.

Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, wantaway Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski and RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku are also options, while fellow City star Gabriel Jesus has also reportedly been offered to the west London side.

Barcelona are in pole position to sign Lewandowski, meaning Chelsea may focus on a winger to boost their attack. Sterling has scored 131 goals in 339 games in all competitions across his seven seasons at City.

He would prove an attractive proposition for Chelsea given his goals record, his standing off the pitch and the club’s struggles with getting big-money overseas signings like Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Alvaro Morata to gel.

The Telegraph also report Sterling is ‘likely’ to issue an update on his future after completing international duty with England.
