  • The 22-year-old Nigerian has been one of Rangers’ best performers this season
  • Bassey is enjoying life at the Scottish side and is in no hurry to leave the club

Rangers have put a £25m price tag on defensive sensation Calvin Bassey amid growing interest from the Premier League.

Ambitious Aston Villa and West Ham are among the top-flight clubs keen on Bassey, 22.

Rangers are hoping to keep hold of one of the stars of their season, Bassey, who himself is happy at Ibrox and in no rush to move on.

And the Scottish Cup winners will only be willing to let Bassey leave if their big-money valuation is met.

The figure that could persuade Rangers to do business would top their previous record sale of £16m following Nathan Paterson’s January move to Everton.

Bassey joined Rangers from Leicester in 2020 for just £230,000 and has shot to prominence this season following a string of standout displays.

The Nigeria international has produced numerous man-of-the-match performances including in the Europa League final against Frankfurt and Rangers’ Scottish Cup final triumph against Hearts on Saturday.

That has alerted the likes of Villa, who have already made Philippe Coutinho’s loan move a permanent for £17m, signed midfielder Boubacar Kamara on a free and centre-back Diego Carlos from Sevilla for an initial £26m, and West Ham.

They have both been impressed by Bassey who has shown he is equally comfortable and effective at both left-back and centre-back and is also understood to be attracting interest from elsewhere in the Premier League.
