Real Madrid are reportedly preparing for a summer overhaul following a turbulent campaign

Real Madrid are reportedly planning a major summer overhaul that could see as many as six first team stars leave the club.

The Spanish giants have endured a turbulent campaign in 2025-26, with boss Xabi Alonso sacked in January.

Real are four points adrift of Barcelona at the top of LaLiga having also lost the Spanish Super Cup final to their arch-rivals, while they were knocked out of the Copa del Rey in embarrassing fashion by lower league outfit Albacete.

Alvaro Arbeloa replaced Alonso, yet he is also enduring a mixed time in the dugout and Los Blancos’ only hope of a trophy remains in the Champions League, although they did beat Man City 3-0 in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

And, according to BILD, Real are set to dramatically reshape their squad this summer as they attempt to return to winning ways.

The report suggests that as many as six players may depart the club, with Austrian defender David Alaba top of the list.

Alaba, 33, is out of contract in the summer after enduring an injury-ravaged few years and it is believed the decision to allow him to leave has already been made.

Elsewhere, Alaba’s fellow defender Antonio Rudiger is also likely to exit when his deal expires in the summer.

There is a chance the situation could change given Rudiger has worked his way back into the first team in recent weeks and scored during a 4-1 win over Elche on Saturday – and talks are expected to take place between his agent and the club.

Dani Carvajal is another who may depart, with the legendary Real right back a third star to be out of contract at the end of the season.

Carvajal, a veteran of 26 trophies at Real, has more often than not found himself on the bench in recent weeks, but again, the next few months of action could change the situation.

The most eye-catching departure, however, could be that of Eduardo Camavinga.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who has previously been tipped as the future of Real and France, has attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Los Blancos will allow Camavinga – who joined the club from Rennes in 2021 at the age of 18 for £34.3m – to depart if the club receives an offer of at least €50million (£43.2m).

Elsewhere, Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, the left backs who have largely played second fiddle to Alvaro Carreras, are not expected to have a role going forward, with reports suggesting both could depart.

Real are back in action on Tuesday night when they take on Man City in the second leg of their last-16 tie at the Etihad.

Arbeloa’s side hold a 3-0 lead from last week’s first leg and will be desperate to progress given the way their season has turned out in other competitions.
