Richarlison is left in tears after coming off just five minutes into Tottenham’s game at Southampton, having looked uncomfortable in the warm-up – in another blow after his recent demands for more game time under Antonio Conte
Richarlison left the pitch in tears after he appeared to suffer an injury during Tottenham’s game against Southampton on Saturday.
The Spurs forward departed the field just five minutes into the game shaking hands with Antonio Conte before walking straight down the tunnel.
It was a bizarre start to the match at St Mary’s as Richarlison wasn’t the only player to leave the field with an injury in the opening term, with Ben Davies also pulling up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, while Saints duo Armel Bella-Kotchap and Jan Bednarek also left the field with injuries.
Richarlison had looked uncomfortable during the warm up, adding further despair to an injury-stricken season that the 25-year-old had previously described as ‘s***.’
Having joined from Everton in the summer for £60m at the start of the season, the Brazilian has struggled to become a regular face in Conte’s starting eleven, notably clashing with the manager last week, with the Italian agreeing that Richarlison’s season has been ‘s***’ too.
But it’s not the first time this season that Richarlison has hobbled off the field, leaving the pitch with a calf injury in Spurs’ 2-0 win against Everton back in October, casting doubts over whether he would be fit for Brazil’s at the World Cup.
He recovered in time to play in four of Brazil’s five games at the tournament, scoring three times for the club, but suffered a hamstring injury during Brazil’s quarter-final defeat by Croatia, ruling him out of action for three league games.
He has since returned to make eight league appearances for the London club, but has failed to find the back of the net.
Yet, he was a pivotal figure in Tottenham’s 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest last week, earning a penalty while teeing up Son Heung-min for Tottenham’s third.
But things have gone from bad to worse for the Spurs forward, who looked uncomfortable during the warm up, before sustaining the injury on the pitch.
Sitting on the turf in dismay, Richarlison was consoled by his captain Harry Kane before he walked down the tunnel.
