Roy Keane's (right) reaction to talk about Anthony Martial left the Stick to Football panel laughing during their latest episode on Thursday

Roy Keane tends to amuse his Stick to Football colleagues with at least one take on an episode and he has done that once again when discussing an ex-Manchester United player.

On the latest episode that aired on Thursday morning, the popular podcast welcomed back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the show – a former team-mate of Keane, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes at United.

Solskjaer was reflecting on his managerial reign at the club and was asked his opinion on Anthony Martial’s time there by Neville. However, before he could answer, Keane’s viewpoint sparked laughter among his co-hosts – which also included Ian Wright and Jill Scott.

Slumping back into his chair and looking to the ceiling bewildered, Keane was the definition of actions speak louder than words in that one motion – to the amusement of everyone.

The pre-cursor to that moment came as when quizzed by Neville to who scored the most goals in his reign as Red Devils manager, Solskjaer correctly guessed Marcus Rashford.

Neville told Solskjaer that Rashford scored 54 as Keane quipped: ‘Martial was just behind him with six’.

Asked what he thought of Martial, Solskjaer praised his former striker: ‘So talented. On his day, he was unplayable.’

Neville then turned to Keane and asked if he was a fan of Martial in light of Solskjaer’s comment and he replied: ‘No. That’s not a good thing, when Ole just said, on his day, that means you don’t get many of them.’

Solskjaer was quick to be diplomatic again saying: ‘They played well together, him [Martial] and Marcus that year when we got second [in the Premier League].

‘Everyone wanted the inside left position though, him, Marcus and Paul Pogba.’

Keane replied back ‘It’s all just opinions, Ole – no problem!’

Martial left Manchester United as a free agent last summer, having spent nine years at the club.

During that period, he came under criticism from Keane beforehand – with the ex-United captain particularly vocal after commenting on their dismal 1-0 defeat at Newcastle on December 2, 2023.

Talking on Sky Sports he said at the time: ‘We mention Martial… we forgive Martial because he scores a goal every 14 years.

‘But let me tell you when at Newcastle under pressure, we get that ball into you, you better get hold of that ball to get us up the pitch and a bit of breathing space.

‘He’s touching balls off and gives the ball away cheaply. You may as well go down the leagues.

‘Man United have been trying to get rid of him a few years ago. You judge Man United on what they do in the big matches. If you can’t deal with that, maybe you’re not a Man United player.’

After one season at AEK Athens, 29-year-old Martial plays in Mexico for outfit Monterrey but is yet to score in any of his seven outings.
