Luke Shaw (left) took a lot of the blame as Phil Foden (middle) headed Man City ahead in derby

Roy Keane accused Manchester United star Luke Shaw of giving up and throwing in the towel against Man City.

Jeremy Doku’s brilliant piece of skill in the first half saw him skip by Shaw’s outstretched leg as his cross eventually found its way to Phil Foden, who headed in to make it 1-0.

Shaw was caught offguard by Doku’s brilliance but former Manchester United midfielder Keane was totally unimpressed by the England international’s effort after being beaten.

‘Shaw just gives up,’ Keane fumed.

‘It’s a nice bit of skill from [Jeremy] Doku, but it’s far too easy. He doesn’t get his body position right. It’s like he has thrown in the towel!’

Keane had some choice words for United captain Bruno Fernandes, too, after he lost sight of Foden, allowing the City midfielder a free header inside the box to score.

‘People have been running off the back of Bruno Fernandes for years,’ Keane added.

‘United had all the numbers back.’

Fernandes struggled against City, who doubled their advantage early in the second half through striker Erling Haaland, as he struggled to ignite any life into United in attack.

In an interview released ahead of the derby he was asked about how he responds to his critics, having been criticised regularly by Keane over the years.

Speaking to the BBC, in a pointed response he said: ‘Nothing. People have an opinion about me and I can’t change that.

‘It’s the way people want to judge you about what they see on the pitch, some of them what they see on television, some of them what they see on interviews.

‘I can’t change that. They have the freedom to think the way they want about me, as I have the same freedom to think about them. But what I don’t do is I don’t judge people until I know them.’
