Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is set to join Napoli on loan

Manchester United are close to an agreement with Napoli to loan out Rasmus Hojlund with an obligation to buy around £40million.

The club are also in a similar negotiating position with Real Betis for winger Antony.

As reported by Daily Mail Sport this week, Napoli stepped up talks to sign Hojlund, who has been told by Ruben Amorim he will receive limited minutes this season.

The frontman is open to joining permanently and will step in to fill the void left behind by Romelu Lukaku, who will miss several months due to a thigh injury.

AC Milan are also in the race and it is understood they offered a £4.5m loan fee with an option to buy for £39m last week. Fulham also showed a tentative interest.

Hojlund had dug in his heels and wanted to fight for his place despite Benjamin Sesko arriving from RB Leipzig in a £73m deal as part of a new-look £200m strike force. He scored 26 goals in 95 matches after joining from Atalanta in the summer of 2023.

Betis, meanwhile, had been confident of finding an agreement over Antony, who enjoyed a productive spell – again on loan – at the club last season.

The winger made 26 appearances during the latter half of the campaign, scoring nine goals. He also featured in the Conference League final defeat by Chelsea.

United are ultimately expected to make a staggering loss, however. Antony joined from Ajax for a fee of £82m plus £4m in add-ons back in 2022.

Daily Mail Sport reported last night that Chelsea are set to sign Alejandro Garnacho after finally agreeing a £40m deal for the outcast winger.

After month-long talks, the 21-year-old Argentine will undergo his medical before signing a long-term contract to move to Stamford Bridge before deadline day.

Chelsea initially wanted to pay £25m while United insisted on £50m.

They met in the middle at £40m with a 10 per cent sell-on fee for any future transfer.
