Sam Kerrhas joked that today is the ‘last day she has to hear about the wedding shred’ as she posted a snap of herself and soon-to-be wife Kristie Mewis in the gym ahead of their big day

Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis had time for a quick gym session on Tuesday, as the soon-to-be newlyweds prepared to tie the knot at a private ceremony in Perth on New Year’s Eve.

Mewis and Kerr have kept the exact location of the wedding under wraps, but the former West Ham United star claimed that the venue was looking ‘beautiful’.

Ahead of the big day, the couple hosted a drinks reception in Perth, welcoming some of their close friends and family to celebrate with them.

Mewis took to Instagram to publish a picture of herself looking stunning in a white dress and a bralet top.

In one picture, Mewis posted a selfie of herself and Kerr smiling by the sea. She wrote in the caption: ‘Tomorrow,’ adding a ‘teary-eyed emoji’ and a ‘heart emoji’.

Earlier in the year, Mewis and Kerr announced the heartwarming news that they had welcomed their first son, Jagger.

The couple have shared several insights into their lives as new parents living in London, with Mewis, on Tuesday, also sharing a snap of her and Jagger getting ready for the reception.

Jagger is set to play a big role on the day, with their seven-month-old set to hold hands with Kerr as he walks down the aisle.

‘I feel like he [Jagger] is a little bit too young to have a role but Sam is going to walk with him down the aisle, which is very, very sweet,’ Mewis said on the Mewis Squared podcast.

‘That is going to be gut-wrenching for me, I will sob when that happens.

‘He’s probably going to be wearing a little matching outfit with her, it’s going to be absolutely adorable so he’s just chilling for the ceremony.’

Kerr had left fans laughing earlier in December after she revealed she’d left it ‘late’ to pick her wedding outfit.

‘Leaving it late, or masterstroke getting my wedding outfit with 15 days to go?’ she wrote on her Instagram story while sitting in a changing room.

The guest list for their wedding is expected to exceed 100 people, with Mewis’ former US National side team-mate, Stephanie McCaffrey also pictured in the slideshow of images.

‘For me to wrap my head around talking to 120 people in one night is a lot and the things that worry me is that I’m not going to be able to give enough time to everybody, so that’s what I’m stressing about right now,’ she added.

Kerr, meanwhile, was also active on her Instagram account on Tuesday, publishing a snap of herself and Kristie in the gym.

She joked: ‘Last day I have to ever hear about the wedding shred.’

It’s been a whirlwind year for the Matildas captain, with Kerr having notably been embroiled in a high-profile court case.

Mewis had stood by her fiancee throughout the legal proceedings, with Kerr being cleared of the racially aggravated harassment of a British police officer, following an incident on a night out back in 2023.

The Chelsea striker also made her long-awaited return to the football pitch in September, after she was forced to undergo surgery to remedy an anterior cruciate ligament injury that had sidelined her for 634 days.

Kerr had first crossed paths with Mewis while they were playing for competing clubs in the National US Women’s Soccer League back in 2019.

COVID-19 restrictions meant that they could not meet up until ‘three or four’ months after they had first begun talking.

The pair subsequently fell head over heels for each other and would both travel to the 2021 Olympics. Australia would suffer defeat by America in the semi-finals, and a heartwarming and now famous photo would emerge, showing Mewis consoling Kerr on the pitch.

‘We have been engaged for a long time,’ the ex-West Ham star said.

‘It will be two and a half years when we get married, so we saw the venue a year and a half, two years ago and they’ve done so many renovations, it’s absolutely gorgeous, it’s everything we wanted it to be.’
