Scott McTominay and Fred are 'NOWHERE near good enough' for Manchester United, claims Robbie Mustoe

Scott McTominay and Fred are ‘NOWHERE near good enough’ for Manchester United, claims NBC pundit Robbie Mustoe… as he slates the club’s transfer window with Erik ten Hag’s side lacking ‘quality’

  • The Erik ten Hag era got off to a nightmare start as Manchester United lost 2-1
  • The Red Devils were trailing 2-0 at Old Trafford heading into halftime Sunday
  • Robbie Mustoe claimed Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho ‘didn’t see the ball’
  • The NBC pundit blamed the team’s ‘incredibly disappointing’ transfer window

Manchester United’s transfer window has been savaged by Robbie Mustoe, who claimed the club have not brought in any quality this summer.

The Erik ten Hag era got off to a nightmare start as United lost 2-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford after Pascal Gross netted twice for the Seagulls.

Ten Hag has brought in Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen this summer but Mustoe claimed the players were simply ‘okay’, which he deemed an unworthy standard for United.

At halftime the pundit blamed the Red Devils’ poor transfer window for their dreadful performance.

‘I’ll keep this short and simple,’ Mustoe said on NBC. ‘I know Ronaldo’s been getting the headlines but the bigger headline for me is the transfer window for United has been incredibly disappointing. They haven’t brought any quality in.

‘When you’ve still got and I’m sorry because there’s part of Scott McTominay’s game that I like, Fred as well, but the quality required in the middle of the park for this football club is nowhere near good enough to supply the front players out there.

‘Sancho and Rashford (are) having a good preseason, they haven’t seen the ball because the ball keeps getting given away by the midfield players, I can put a reel together of six and seven times.

‘It looks simple stuff, but if your midfield players don’t possess a pass, positively forward, to get forwards involved, they are going to be fiddling around and giving the ball away. Brighton have been brilliant.

‘Quality is lacking at this football club. Players they’ve brought on are okay but Man United bringing in okay, it’s not good enough.’

The Red Devils have been linked with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong throughout the summer.

Ten Hag remained coy on the rumors when questioned earlier this week but Mustoe insisted it would be an ‘excellent signing’ before blaming the club’s leadership for the lack of success in the transfer market this summer.

‘Football club, ownership, director of football, the leaders,’ Mustoe added. ‘I’m sure Ten Hag has been advising them. Frenkie de Jong would be an excellent signing if they can get him.

‘It’s just the leadership. The directors of the club, the football decision-makers are not doing enough to help the team improve.’
