Sir Alex Ferguson has lauded the impact of summer signing Senne Lammens as the legendary Manchester United boss expressed optimism at the club’s recent form.
Man United have embarked on a five-match unbeaten run under Ruben Amorim, with the Red Devils showing signs of improvement after a dismal campaign last season.
The unbeaten sequence was kept alive with a last-gasp 2-2 draw against Tottenham ahead of the international break.
Amorim’s side lie seventh in a congested Premier League table, but are just two points shy of third placed Chelsea.
Ferguson, who led Man United to 38 trophies in his 26-year reign, offered a rare public comment on his former club while at horse racing’s Bahrain International Trophy.
The 13-time Premier League winner pinpointed the ‘outstanding’ start Lammens has made since the Belgian goalkeeper joined from Royal Antwerp in a £21.7million move this summer.

Ferguson stated that the summer signing from Royal Antwerp has looked ‘really good’ to date
Ferguson was optimistic about the progress being made by Amorim’s side, while stressing the need for the club to keep recording back-to-back wins.
‘There are signs, the manager has had some good signs,’ Ferguson told Raceday RTV.
‘Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.
‘Of course, Mbeumo and Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it.
‘I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success – the signs are getting better.
‘I think back-to-back wins is something teams like United should always expect. But having gone through a cycle where the improvement has to come by waiting and being patient, they’ll enjoy it now.’
Lammens has played just five matches for Man United to date, with the 23-year-old shot stopper currently yet to taste defeat when he has played.
He earned a clean sheet on his debut in a 2-0 victory over Sunderland, which was followed by a 2-1 win against rivals Liverpool and a 4-2 victory over Brighton.

Man United have drawn 2-2 in their past two Premier League matches against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham, but Lammens has earned praise for his displays.
Tony Coton, who worked as a goalkeeping coach under Ferguson for a decade at Man United, was reportedly instrumental in the club’s decision to sign Lammens.
Man United’s director of football Jason Wilcox revealed earlier this month that Coton, who now works for the Red Devils as a goalkeeper scout, had been ‘relentless’ in suggesting the club move for the Belgian.
‘Tony Coton was putting Senne on my radar 12 months ago, and he was relentless with it,’ Wilcox said.
‘This guy is going to be a top signing for us, and he has started well, but he has got to keep it going. He is very reflective, and he is very professional with his approach.
‘We were always looking at goalkeepers who have huge potential. Senne was available and we decided to move, but it wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction.’
