The front pages make uncomfortable reading for Barcelona in the wake of their miserable goalless draw with Cadiz on Thursday night – their third game without victory.

Frenkie de Jong was sent off with 25 minutes left and under-pressure coach Ronald Koeman was dismissed in the closing moments for dissent.

Memphis Depay was guilty of passing up several good openings as they slumped to seventh in the LaLiga table, already seven points adrift of leaders Real Madrid.

Sympathy from the press was in short supply on Friday morning, with Marca mocking them with the headline ‘Neither Tiki nor Taki’ in a reference to their famous playing style.

‘Barcelona are in free-fall and incapable of beating Cadiz,’ they say and are particularly scathing of a lacklustre first-half performance from Barca.

Diario AS lead with a picture of a downbeat Koeman and the headline ‘Agony’.

They highlight the annoyed comments of defender Gerard Pique, who blamed the dropped points on a fixture schedule that left Barcelona playing twice in midweek after a 1-1 home draw with Granada on Monday night.

‘I don’t know who arranged the fixtures but I don’t understand why we had to play Monday and then again on Thursday,’ Pique said.

‘We have five games with 12 days to rest. It’s not a complaint but I hope the league look at it.’

Diario Sport show a picture of a floored Depay, whose strong early season form has faded, and sum it all up with the simple headline ‘Frustration’.

They too criticise the first-half display and confirm that Koeman will continue in his post for the time being despite the recent slump that started with a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

‘Broken reaction’ is Mundo Deportivo’s headline as they feature a picture of Barcelona players remonstrating with the referee following the second of two quite harsh yellow cards for De Jong.

‘One of the problems in Spain is they send you off for nothing,’ Koeman complained afterwards. ‘They don’t say why, they just say attitude.

‘I am strong of course. I can’t win the battle with the press. I will put my energy into the team and with the players. I still see a fantastic attitude of the players and for me that is most important.

‘I can’t stop what the press are writing. We have to continue, that is my job.’

Barcelona are next in action at home to Levante on Sunday afternoon before they head to Benfica in the Champions League.
