Erik ten Hag confirms Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Antony will all MISS Man United’s Premier League clash with Leeds… as he also reveals they won’t appeal Casemiro’s red card with the Brazilian set to miss three games through suspension

  • Erik ten Hag’s side have faced significant injury problems over recent weeks
  • He confirmed Martial, McTominay and Antony would miss the clash with Leeds

Brazil star Antony has joined Manchester United’s lengthening list of absentees and will miss Wednesday’s clash with Leeds at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag revealed that the £82million summer signing has been ruled out through injury, while Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are still not ready to return.

United are already without Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek with long-term injuries, and Casmeiro is starting a three-match ban.

Speaking about Martial and McTominay on Tuesday, Ten Hag said: ‘They are not involved tomorrow and the same with Antony, also not available tomorrow, so we have to sort it out.’

He added that United will not appeal against Casemiro’s ban after he was shown a straight red card by referee Andre Marriner on Saturday for grabbing Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes by the throat.

He said: ‘Consider, yeah, still it’s for me not the right decision, but I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process.’

Leeds sacked Jesse Marsch two days before the two old rivals meets at Old Trafford, but Ten Hag warned that changing manager doesn’t always guarantee improvement.

‘It’s always sad if a manager, a colleague, gets sacked,’ he added. ‘So, in general, I don’t believe in it that you sack a manager and get better results. Most of the time it doesn’t work.

‘Let the manager finish their work and make a good evaluation. But the pressure is high with decision makers at football clubs and they turn. But if you see the facts, most of the time it doesn’t work out well.

‘But when Jesse Marsch was in Leeds it was clear how they play. Now it’s possible they change. Tt’s possible they don’t change. We will only find out on the pitch tomorrow, but we need good anticipation for that.

‘For instance against, Aston Villa, the difference when Unai Emery came in was they had a week to prepare, and now Leeds don’t have so much time. We will see but we need to be proactive.’

Ten Hag’s side are in good form, having won five of their seven league games since the post-World Cup restart, while they are also in the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup fifth round – but they have suffered several injuries over recent weeks.

Speaking at the weekend, Ten Hag revealed Martial was set for another period on the sidelines as he continues his injury hit season, despite scoring on his return to action against Nottingham Forest last week.

He said: ‘Martial had a setback from the game when he returned. He thought he could build up, but he dropped a little bit back. We have to wait; we have to be patient, not to force it.’

Ten Hag also confirmed the club would not appeal Casemiro's suspension after he was sent off against Palace at the weekend and is now set to miss three Premier League games

On McTominay, Ten Hag had explained his absence on deadline day: ‘Scott will still be absent. I think also the next game [against Palace] he will be. We have to see how that process will go.’

However, there was some positive news on the absentee front for Ten Hag at the weekend.

Diogo Dalot returned to the bench after injury, while Jadon Sancho was also among the substitutes in a Premier League game for the first time since October – after he returned to action in their Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest last Wednesday.

United can go level on points with Man City if they win tomorrow’s clash which kicks off at 8pm.
