Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou maintains the immediate backing of chairman Daniel Levy despite the team’s alarming form.

Spurs have won one game in seven – their stirring 4-0 win at Manchester City – which has led to uncertainty over Postecoglou’s future.

However, for the time being the Australian coach is not under any unnatural pressure to keep his job with Levy committed to the 59-year-old.

There is a acknowledgement that recent results, barring the win at the Etihad Stadium, have been disappointing and naturally if their form doesn’t improve then Postecoglou’s reign will come under more internal scrutiny.

Supporter reaction to Postecoglou will also emerge as a factor if results don’t get better in the immediate future.

But there is an understanding that the team, particularly in defence, have been hampered by key injuries – notably to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Spurs also face Manchester United later next week for a place in the Carabao Cup semi-final as the club look to win their first trophy since 2008.

They will also climb into the automatic qualification places for the Europa League knockout stages with victory against Rangers on Thursday.

Postecoglou and Levy enjoy a good relationship with the Spurs chairman eager to give his underfire boss every opportunity to arrest the team’s recent slide.

And while results will inevitably be the overriding factor towards Postecoglou’s long-term future, Spurs want to give their head coach time to improve results.
