Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Genoa centre-back Koni De Winter, who Inter Milan are also keeping an eye on

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Genoa defender Koni De Winter – in the height of summer.

Spurs are said to be keeping tabs on the £21.5million-rated Belgium international as a possible replacement for Cristian Romero.

That’s because Atletico Madrid are admirers of Romero and could make a move for him, although the Londoners will demand in excess of £60m for their Europa League winner.

Aged 23, De Winter is four years younger than Romero and still building his reputation as a centre-back.

The Antwerp-born star has spent three seasons as a regular starter in Serie A – first on loan from Juventus at Empoli and Genoa, and now permanently for the latter.

TalkSPORT reports that Tottenham are keeping an eye on him, although Inter Milan are also keen to do a deal.

The Champions League finalists are apparently eager to do a swap deal for De Winter, offering forward Valentin Carboni, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport.

In footballing terms, Tottenham and Inter Milan can offer De Winter similar projects for the coming season.

Both are in the Champions League, and both are under the the tutelage of new managers – Tottenham with Thomas Frank, and Inter with Cristian Chivu.

Tottenham broke their 17-year silverware hoodoo last season as Ange Postecoglou led them to Europa League glory.

However, after finishing one point behind Serie A title winners Napoli and making the Champions League final, one might argue that Inter offer the better prospects of a trophy.

De Winter spent his youth career in various academies in Belgium before joining the youth set-up at Juventus in 2018 and eventually graduating to the first team.

However, the 6ft3in star only made a couple of outings for the senior team.

Last year he was handed his first Belgium cap and in 2025, the versatile defender has added a further three.

Tottenham have already added three new faces to the squad this summer.

Winger Mathys Tel has joined from Bayern Munich for £30m, centre-back Kevin Dando has signed up for £21m from Lens and, as arranged in September 2023, young defender Luka Vuskovic has arrived from Westerlo for £9.3m.
