Trent Alexander-Arnold refused to comment on his future after sending Liverpool fans into a frenzy with his celebration of the Reds’ winning goal against Leicester.

The Englishman’s deflected strike moved Arne Slot’s side to within one win of the Premier League title and condemned the Foxes to an immediate return to the Championship.

But Alexander-Arnold’s passionate reaction – in which he ripped off his shirt, darted for the travelling support and roared to the assembled masses – left many searching for answers.

The right-back, whose contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season, has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, while recent new deals for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk has only increased the spotlight on the 26-year-old.

‘Look, I’ve said all season that I’m not going to speak on my situation,’ he told Sky Sports after his match-winning contribution. ‘I’m not going to go into any details but days like today are very special.

‘Scoring goals, playing, winning games, being in title races, they are special moments that will live with me forever and I’m glad to be a part of them.’

And Liverpool boss Arne Slot insisted that the story should be about Alexander’s Arnold moment rather than the future of his vice-captain.

‘The headline should be about the goal he scored and not his contract. What I can say is that would be ridiculous if someone argues about his commitment for this club – because the workrate he has put in to get back fit and all the work he’s done for his club in all these years that he’s here, no-one should, in my opinion, argue about his commitment to this club,’ said Slot. ‘Let the headlines be about his great goal and not his contract situation.’

Alexander-Arnold made his return to the Liverpool squad for the first time in five weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in the Reds’ Champions League defeat by Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool fans were quick to speculate on the meaning of the defender’s wild celebration, with many taking encouragement from the passionate display.  One fan wrote on X: ‘He’s staying surely. That celebration was something else’.

Meanwhile, another wrote: ‘That is some reaction/celebration from Trent after scoring?!?’.

Another fan commented on the passion that Alexander-Arnold showed towards the club’s fans.

They wrote: ‘He showed way too much passion towards the Liverpool fans for someone who wants to leave.. he is staying’.

Another fan simply wrote: ‘HE CAN’T LEAVE US AFTER THIS CELEBRATION’. In addition, another stated: ‘He’s staying isn’t he no other option after that cele’.

Meanwhile, Clinton Morrison, speaking on BBC 5 Live, suggested that Alexander-Arnold wouldn’t celebrate in such a manner if he was leaving Liverpool.

Morrison said: ‘If you’re leaving a football club I don’t think you celebrate like that’.

The England international has been heavily linked with Madrid throughout the saga over his future, and the Spanish giants had a £20million bid rejected for him in January.

And last month, Mail Sport reported Madrid remain confident of signing Alexander-Arnold this summer on a free – with sources in Spain suggesting the move is ‘all set and done’.

Alexander-Arnold has been at Liverpool since joining their youth academy back in 2004. After breaking into the first-team in 2016, he has represented the Reds in 350 senior games and helped bring seven different pieces of silverware to Anfield.
