Israel threatens to launch direct attack on Iran

Israel 's foreign minister today declared his nation's armed forces would launch direct retaliatory strikes on Iran should the Islamic Republic carry out an attack against Israel - the latest step in escalating tensions in the Middle East. Writing in both his native Hebrew and Farsi, Israel Katz said on X: 'If Iran attacks from its territory, Israel will respond and attack in Iran.' The blunt and threatening remark came after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei early this morning reiterated a promise to 'punish an 'evil' Israel following a suspected IDF strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria that killed 12 people, including two top generals, on April 1.

GOP sets list of demands before the Baltimore bridge funding vote

The conservative House Freedom Caucus is demanding that the reconstruction of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge must not become a 'pork-filled' spending palooza the same day Biden is set to visit the disaster site. The president is expected to arrive at the collapsed bridge Friday, over a week after a shipping container collided with and destroyed the structure, which ultimately claimed six lives.

Biden takes helicopter tour of Baltimore bridge collapse site

President Joe Biden is touring the site of the collapsed bridge in Baltimore on Friday amid a political upheaval on how to pay for its recovery, which is expected to cost up to $2 billion. Conservatives on Capitol Hill are already objecting to the price tag. The House Freedom Caucus wants any of the money to be 'fully offset' by cuts elsewhere in the federal budget and they demand that the Biden administration lift its pause on approvals for natural gas export projects before they'll approve any bridge money. Biden will take an aerial tour of Patapsco River, at the mouth of the Baltimore Harbor, via Marine One, where he'll see the remains of the Francis Scott Key Bridge as cranes, ships and diving crews work to reopen one of the massive shipping lane.

It is the latest legal blow to Trump who is due to appear in court in 11 days time for the start of a business fraud trial in New York. His lawyers have repeatedly sought to delay the four cases against him or have the prosecutions dismissed entirely.

Outrage at DC Mayor Bowser’s claim crime is down in ‘all categories’

Mayor Muriel Bowser boasted that crime is down in Washington, D.C., compared to last year even though a recent string of violence has sent residents fleeing for Virginia and Maryland suburbs. Despite an overall 13 percent dip this year from January 1 through April 2 compared to the same time period last year, the District of Columbia is still experiencing a rise in crime compared to the norm in years prior to 2023. It comes after 2023 was recorded as the deadliest year in more than two decades. D.C. also had the largest spike in violent crime out of any other major U.S. city.

NYC councilwoman slams Mayor Eric Adams’ $53M migrant debit card plan

A NYC council member has slammed Mayor Eric Adams ' scheme to hand out debit cards to asylum seekers, saying it offers a 'clear incentive' for migrants to move to the city. Vickie Paladino, who represents District 19 of Northeast Queens, said she had heard from migrants herself that they are flocking to the city for free money. The cards are preloaded with a week's worth of funds and will be rolled out to 115 families, equivalent to 450 people by the end of this week. Mayor Eric Adams is pressing ahead with the $53 million scheme, despite a furious backlash amid fears the cards are open to abuse.
