Under the Palestinian Scholarship Initiative.
The Palestinian Scholarship Initiative (PSI), launched by a group of Singaporean citizens, has raised over S$510,000, allowing four Palestinian students to be awarded scholarships to study in Singapore.
In August 2025, three will be pursuing their postgraduate studies at the National University of Singapore and Singapore University of Social Sciences, while the remaining scholar will be pursuing their undergraduate studies at the Singapore Institute of Management.
The PSI was launched on Oct. 26, 2024 and surpassed its original target of S$400,000.
Over S$510,000 was raised in total, including over S$370,000 raised through the Ray of Hope crowdfunding platform and another S$140,000 from private donors.
“Our initial goal was to sponsor two undergraduate scholars,” said Anthea Ong, former Nominated Member of Parliament and PSI Co-chair.
“Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the public and private donors, we are now able to support double that number.
This reflects the giving spirit of Singaporeans and residents, especially in the face of this immense humanitarian crisis in Palestine.”
To provide further support to the scholars, PSI will roll out a Scholars Support Programme, a volunteer-led effort to offer emotional, social and cultural support.
Each scholar will be paired with two dedicated befrienders from the wider community and within their university.
The programme is designed to “nurture healing, belonging and growth, reflecting PSI’s belief in care that extends beyond academics.”
Previously, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong joined PSI’s partners at their iftar event on Mar. 18 to show his support for the cause.
At the event, PM Wong said that he was “heartened by the community-led effort to help young Palestinians pursue their education in Singapore so they can build better futures for themselves and their families when they return to rebuild their homeland.”
“Be it through ground-up initiatives or government programmes, Singapore will continue to do whatever we can to support the people of Palestine in their time of need,” he added.
