The body of a 52-year-old man was found in his flat several months after his wife passed away.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the body in a state of decomposition was discovered at around 11:55am on Dec. 22 in a unit at Block 306A Punggol Place.

Deceased believed to have been dead for four days

When Shin Min reporters arrived at the scene, a unit on the fourth floor was cordoned off, with several police officers seen entering and exiting the flat.

Two individuals, believed to be relatives of the deceased, were observed speaking to the police before leaving the scene.

One of the deceased’s brothers arrived later in the afternoon and entered the unit.

He declined to comment when approached by reporters.

A worker carrying out renovations at a nearby unit said police arrived at around noon, and that the man was believed to have been dead for about four days before his body was found.

The body was taken away in a black vehicle after 4pm.

In response to Mothership‘s queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that they received a call for assistance at 12:05pm.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

According to the police, preliminary investigations do not suggest foul play, and investigations are ongoing.

Wife had passed away a few months ago

A neighbour living on the same floor said the deceased and his wife had moved into the unit about two years ago, Shin Min reported.

The neighbour said she used to see the couple regularly, but had not seen them for some time recently.

“Early last month, I took the elevator with the man and he told me that his wife had passed away from cancer recently,” she recalled, adding that she was shocked by the news as the man’s late wife appeared relatively young.

She said that the man appeared visibly saddened by his wife’s death, but seemed to be in good health.

“He seemed very healthy and he never mentioned having any illness. He was also very friendly and always greeted me whenever we met,” she shared, though she was unaware of his occupation, or whether the couple had children.
