Most of us have been lucky enough to only glimpse extreme poverty in passing or from a distance, be it in news reports or TV shows.

For an alarming percentage around the world, though, it’s real life.

In a TikTok video shared on Mar. 7, one father in Malaysia was shown having no choice but to beg for food from a restaurant in order to feed his two children.

Act of kindness

The video contains CCTV footage that shows the man receiving two packets of food from a restaurant.

Unable to contain the smile on his face, the man thanked his saviours profusely.

-Ayam Gepuk PAK AGUS pedas terciduk cawangan kajang. #ayamgepukpakagus #kajang #help #fyp #foryoupage #viral ♬ NO TO RACISM – Islam Shurdhaj

The restaurant is identified as Ayam Gepuk Pak Agus.

Its owner Shafiq Razak was the one who eventually posted the video on TikTok.

He wrote in the caption, “We were visited by a man who was begging us for food. He said that it’s for two of his kids who have not eaten yet. We immediately offered him free food which he said he would pay back once he had money.”

Overwhelmed with gratitude

According to World of Buzz, Shafiq said it was near closing time when the man walked in asking for food.

Since Shafiq was not on site, his employees called to inform him of the situation.

Through a CCTV app on his phone, he observed that that man appeared to be in “distress”.

“He told the staff to prepare two extra large portions of food for him without further ado,” reported World of Buzz.

As he prepared to leave clutching the food, the man could be seen wiping tears from his eyes, relieved that his children would not go hungry for the night.

The employees then called him back and gave him an extra bottle of mineral bottle.

Inspiring others

The short video touched the hearts of many viewers, who took to the comments to praise Shafiq and his employees.

One user wrote, “Thank you for doing that, each of us have our own paths and are not the same as each other. I respect you.”

In an interview with mStar, Shafiq said he had encountered similar incidents before, as many homeless people slept behind the restaurant and some had also come in begging for food in the past.

Shafiq has yet to see the father again, but hopes to do volunteer work to help more of those in need.

He implored others to reach out a helping hand as well and tide others through their difficult times.
