It helps to receive a gift with enthusiasm.
It’s durian season in Malaysia, and three young boys tried to pool their money together to get themselves a tasty treat.
A TikTok video going viral shows the three boys at a roadside stall in Kuala Lumpur negotiating with the stall owner to get themselves a durian to share.
Terbaik Musang King
According to a translation by WeirdKaya, the stall owner asks how much each child had, and the boys pool their money, pulling out a series of 1 and 5 RM notes and some coins to pool together about 15 RM (S$4.55).

The stall advertises a bag of durians for RM 50 (S$15.17), which implies that a decent-sized durian would cost roughly half that, meaning that the boys were a ways off from a regular purchase.
But rather than turning them away, the stall owner counts up the money and returns it to them, saying that he would treat them to durian instead.
Turning to his stall, he picks up a healthy-sized durian and begins to chop into its base, prying it open for the boys to see, telling them that it’s a “musang king”.
The boys, watching in rapt attention, were clearly impressed, shouting “Ooh! Musang King!” and clapping.
Beaming, they watch as the stall owner opens the rest of the fruit and claps as he finishes, as the oldest one records on his phone.
Handing over the bag with the durian, he gives one final treat.
Reaching into his stock once again, he sends the boys off with an additional durian for later, and as they seem to be happily confused, he ushers them off, assuring them that the durian and the transaction are “terbaik”, loosely translated to the best.
Children under the age of 32
The comments section of the video was alive with other Malaysians marvelling at the stall owner’s, a man named Bala, kindness and generosity, and wishing him well.
With many commentators saying that they would seek his stall out, one had a cheeky question, asking if “children under the age of 32” could also expect a discount.
