He described it as an “achievement unlocked”.
Taiwanese actor and model Jasper Liu was in for a not-so-pleasant surprise during his recent stay in Singapore — after purchasing three bottles of water and realising they had cost him NT$1,600 (around S$64).
The 39-year-old star was in Singapore to film Mediacorp’s upcoming crime drama Crisis Man, where he stars alongside local artistes Cynthia Koh, Hong Ling and Nick Teo.
“Achievement unlocked”
On Feb. 9, Liu took to Instagram to share a photo of himself carrying three 1.5-litre bottles of water from a French brand.
“Remember to take note of the exchange rate when travelling,” he wrote in his caption. “I told myself not to buy too many, just one bottle of water per person would be enough. After checking out, I realised the price seemed a little off, so I asked about the exchange rate… It turns out the three bottles cost almost 1,600NTD (about S$64)!”
He then typed the Chinese character “呵” (pronounced as “he”) 10 times in a row — indicating a sort of dry, pained chuckle at his expense.
Joking about the experience, Liu described it as an “achievement unlocked” and quipped that he had been ripped off.
He also playfully asked his fans: “Friends, do you want some water?”
The bottled water is understood to be a French natural mineral water brand sourced from the Sainte-Baume mountains in Provence.
A quick search on the local e-commerce platform Shopee showed that a 1.5-litre bottle retails for between S$16 and S$21.
Liu later commented under his post, calling it “pure and high-quality water from France”, and added that he was “flabbergasted” by the price.

His Crisis Man co-star, Koh, also joined in the fun and teased him in the comments, saying, “Drinking alcohol is cheaper than drinking water.”

Netizens were quick to comfort the actor, leaving comments such as “Such memorable water” and “Your skin will become radiant,” Lianhe Zaobao reported.
Local fans also chimed in with practical advice, reminding him that Singapore’s tap water is safe to drink and telling him that bottled water prices can vary depending on where they shop.
Who is Liu?
Liu is known for his roles in popular Taiwanese dramas such as Before We Get Married (2019), Triad Princess (2019), and More than Blue (2018).
He also starred in the 2020 Netflix unscripted travel reality show Twogether with South Korean actor-singer Lee Seung Gi.
