Donald Trump is reportedly preparing a major strike against Iran, with the operation most likely to take place after the midterm elections.
Two anonymous US officials told CNN that the military action would target energy, nuclear and military sites on a scale larger than any previous operation.
According to the outlet, the Department of War has quietly moved additional troops into the Middle East. The forces are reportedly ready to begin an attack within 96 hours of receiving an order from the president.
‘It will be a big effort,’ one official told CNN, while cautioning that the strikes could be launched at any point. However, the operation is considered most likely to come after November’s midterm elections.
The Daily Mail has contacted the White House for comment.
The report follows Trump’s comments on Saturday, when he told reporters that there was ‘a possibility’ he could strike Iran again.
‘There’s also a possibility we’ll have a nice big beautiful agreement,’ he added.
Trump also reaffirmed his backing for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week. He urged Israelis to support the incumbent in Tuesday’s vote so they could ‘finish the job’ in Iran.

‘When you go to the Polls please remember that Bibi has been an outstanding warrior prime minister!’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.
‘Israel was called the little satan, with the United States being called the big satan, by some very evil people,’ he added.
‘There can no longer be the chant heard around the world of ‘Death to America, death to Israel,’ and there won’t be.’
Trump had already formally endorsed Netanyahu in a lengthy statement, describing him as ‘strong, brave and brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition’.
‘Bibi Netanyahu will never let you down,’ he added.
Israelis will vote on Tuesday in the first national election since Hamas launched its attack on October 7, 2023. The contest is widely viewed as a referendum on Netanyahu’s leadership.

The developments come as conditions in the Middle East grow increasingly dangerous for US personnel.
Intelligence officials warned last week that Iran had ‘substantially increased efforts to target US personnel,’ according to an unclassified memo.
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton sent the October 23 memo to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Clayton said the information had been gathered ‘through various channels,’ but provided no further details.
‘The lethal plotting efforts by the Iranians against US citizens have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries,’ Clayton wrote in the one-page memo, first reported by Axios.
A US official confirmed the memo to Our News Outlet on Saturday afternoon.
Amid concerns about a potential Iranian escalation, the US has changed staffing levels at several American embassies across the Middle East, including those in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
On Wednesday, the US ordered non-emergency government employees and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia.
