Aldi customers observed that Killarnee Lamb Mince 500g packs no longer appeared to be available in Aldi stores or on their website

Aldi Australia customers have noticed that a staple grocery item sold at the budget supermarket has been quietly removed from shelves.

Shoppers recently observed that they no longer appeared to be able to find Lamb Mince 500g packs in the refrigerated meat section of the store.

The meat product’s online listing on the Aldi website also shows up as ‘currently not available’.

The popular meat is described as being ‘versatile and packed with flavour’ and is ‘ideal for making meatballs, burgers, or sauces’ – according to the online listing.

Daily Mail understands that there has been a supply issue impacting the availability of the lamb mince packs at Aldi stores across Australia.

But in positive news for shoppers, the disruption of lamb mince supplies is only temporary and the stores are working to normalise availability as soon as possible.

Those who regularly purchased their lamb mince from Aldi discussed its absence  from shelves in a Reddit thread.

Posting in the Aldi Australia Sub-Reddit, one passionate foodie asked: ‘Did Aldi stop selling lamb mince? I’ve been to a couple of different stores and can no longer find the lamb mince. Does anyone know if it’s been discontinued?’

A person claiming to be an Aldi employee quickly responded to deliver their verdict.

The supermarket employee confirmed that the lamb mince had indeed been removed from the store shelves for the time being.

‘We haven’t had it for at least a month now and (we’ve) taken the ticket away and expanded two other products,’ the Aldi staffer observed.

A number of shoppers vented their disappointment over the popular mince meat product’s sudden unavailability.

‘Is that official? I used to actually really like it,’ replied one customer.

‘I’m going to be annoyed if I can’t make koftas for myself,’ another chimed in.

‘Stopped selling it at mine. Went to make gozleme and had to settle for beef mince,’ one shopper noted.

‘Yes it’s been gone for quite a few months now. Initially I thought it would come back in spring. Lambs are baby sheep. Baby sheep are born in spring. We will see if it comes back,’ another added.

However, those who are hankering for lamb mince needn’t look too far afield to find the product elsewhere.

Lamb mince is still readily available at most butcher shops as well as other major supermarkets.

In Sydney Woolworths locations, a 500g pack of lamb mince is available for $8.50. Similarly, Coles stores in Sydney stock a 500g pack of 3-star lamb mince for $8.50.

At both the major supermarkets, this makes the per kilo unit price of 500g mince packs $17 per kilo.

But for shoppers seeking the most economical mince meat, a butcher tells Daily Mail that beef mince is almost always the cheapest option.

Matt Oltoumis, General Manager of Cannings Butchers in Melbourne, told Daily Mail that beef mince tends to have a lower unit price, which usually sits somewhere around the $14 per kilo mark.

Recent research from mobile payment terminal business Tyro noted that shoppers have changed their meat spending habits in 2025, and are spending far less compared to the previous year. The data showed the average spend per butcher visit dropped from $80 in 2024 to $47 in 2025.

Matt also offered some practical advice for selecting mince meat.

‘Customers should select finely ground mince that displays a vibrant red colour without any greyish tinge,’ Matt told Daily Mail.

‘And check that there’s minimal moisture accumulation in the packaging tray, which can indicate poor handling or storage.’
