Israel said it carried out airstrikes on targets in central and western Iran early on Monday in response to Iranian missile attacks.
Explosions were reported in several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and Karaj.
Iran temporarily closed the airspace around Tehran’s main international airport following the attacks.
This comes despite US president Donald Trump urging Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to retaliate immediately.
Earlier, Israel’s IDF said in a post on social media they had identified missiles “launched from Iran toward Israel”, while “defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat”.
“Sirens were sounded in several areas across the country following the identification of missiles launched from Iran toward Israel,” they added.
The strikes mark the first attacks on Israel from Iran since the April ceasefire took effect. An unnamed Israeli official told Axios that Israel plans to respond.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the Israeli army must stop its attacks on Lebanon, and if it expands its attacks or responds to Iran’s actions, it will face “more crushing and regretful blows”.
Israel says fresh wave of attacks launched from Iran
The Israeli military said it had detected a fresh wave of missiles launched from Iran towards Israeli territory.
It said air defence systems were working to intercept the incoming projectiles and urged residents to follow official safety instructions.
“A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” Israeli military said in a statement.
“In the past few minutes, the Home Front Command has sent a precautionary directive directly to mobile phones in the relevant areas.
“The public is asked to act responsibly and follow the instructions—they save lives. Upon receiving an alert, the public is instructed to enter a protected space and remain there until further notice.”

Iranian envoy claims Strait of Hormuz to reopen with transit fee
Iran’s ambassador to Russia has said the Strait of Hormuz will reopen, but under new conditions jointly set by Iran and Oman, including transit charges for ships using the strategic waterway.
Kazem Jalali told the Russian newspaper Izvestia: “Of course, this strait will be open, but with new conditions to be determined by the Iranian and Omani authorities.”
He said: “We understand that Iran and Oman provide certain services related to this strait. And fees will be charged for those services.”
The comments come after the US-Israeli war on Iran severely disrupted oil and liquefied natural gas shipments through the strait. While some tankers have recently left the Gulf, energy flows remain heavily constrained.
Iran has previously argued that any permanent peace agreement should allow it to collect fees from vessels passing through the strait. The proposal has been strongly opposed by the United States, with Washington warning Oman against participating in any effort to impose such charges.

Israeli emergency says no reports of injuries following missile launch from Yemen
Israeli emergency services said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage following the missile launch from Yemen.
As tensions continue to rise, the Israeli military has tightened civilian safety measures, banning large gatherings and suspending classes nationwide.
According to the Associated Press, this is the first time schools across Israel have been closed since the previous confrontation with Iran in April.
Schools in communities near Israel’s northern border had already been shut for an extended period because of the threat of attacks from Hezbollah.

Israeli ambassador to US defends strikes on Iran
Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, has defended his country’s latest strikes on Iran, saying “no self-respecting country” would accept missile attacks on its territory.
Writing on X, Leiter said the Israeli operation was aimed at Iran’s surface-to-surface missile launch sites and other non-energy infrastructure.
“The people of Lebanon have rejected Iran’s proxy, Hizballah, and have told Iran to get out of their country,” Leiter said.
“If Hizballah fires at Israel, its command centers in the Dahiya will be hit hard,” he said, referring to a southern district of Beirut that is widely recognised as a Hezbollah stronghold.
“This has nothing to do with Iran. Everyone has had enough of this maniacal Iranian regime.”
