Trump eviscerates 'total loser' Bill Maher in 1,300-word Truth Social post after Karoline Leavitt appears on HBO show: 'biased, dumb SLEAZEBAG'

Donald Trump launched a blistering 1,300-word attack on comedian Bill Maher on Truth Social, just days after inviting him to the White House for what the president had called a “good” dinner.

In his Sunday night post, Trump labeled Maher a “complete and total loser.” The broadside came after the pair dined at the White House earlier this month and days after Maher welcomed former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt onto his HBO program.

“Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher,” Trump wrote. “He’s got a Low Rated Show on equally Low Rated HBO.”

The president also referred to his time on The Apprentice and claimed Maher had repeatedly pressed him to appear on the comedian’s show.

“When I became President, I agreed to meet, after the first one, and the last one, but never agreed to do his show, which he wants me to do, DESPARATELY — It won’t happen!” Trump wrote.

“When I have watched the show, which isn’t often, it always ends with dishonesty, about me at least, but, who cares?”

Trump accused Maher of relying on “Fake Polls” and disputed the comedian’s claim that he had suffered his lowest ratings and lost support within the Republican Party.

“I have High Ratings and, more importantly, he said that I’m losing the support and approval of the Republican Party when, in fact, CNN just came out with a Poll showing that I’m at 98 and 99% support within the Republican Party, an All Time Record High,” Trump wrote.

Trump went on to accuse Maher of lying “about everything” and said he believed the comedian had misled him when asked about the laughter and applause on his program. “People can’t think he’s funny,” Trump wrote, adding that the two had not known each other before their White House meeting.

Describing the dinner, which was also attended by Kid Rock and ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith, Trump said it had been a positive gathering. “Overall, I thought it was a good meeting,” he wrote. “It didn’t last four hours, it lasted two hours, maybe less, and everybody was happy.”

Trump said Maher had been friendly after their first dinner and that the comedian’s subsequent show featured what he described as exaggerated laughter before Maher returned to his usual style.

“I understand that. He’s doing his thing. I never took it very personally,” Trump wrote, while again mocking what he called Maher’s low ratings.

Trump also attacked Maher personally, writing that the comedian was “not a nice guy” and that he tailored his views to an audience that largely dislikes working.

Discussing Maher’s first White House dinner in April last year, Trump claimed the comedian had invited himself and appeared nervous during their initial meeting.

“He asked for a drink. He was very insecure, and he had a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn’t me!” Trump wrote.

Over the weekend, Maher responded to criticism of the dinner, saying: “Yeah I did it again b******,” a reference to his first White House meal with Trump in April 2025.

He reinforced that position during his show, telling critics: “You know what? F*** you. I like these dinners.”

During his opening monologue over the weekend, Maher said Trump had the lowest approval rating of any midterm candidate ever.

“Only 1 percent of the Republicans are mentioning him in their ads. It’s gotten really bad,” Maher said.

He also joked about the White House dinner, imagining an aide announcing his arrival as: “Sir, your 7 o’clock low-ratings dummy is here.”

Maher said the conversation covered a wide range of subjects, including the Supreme Court, ICE shootings, the abandonment of Afghans who assisted the United States during the war and criticism that Hegseth was damaging Trump’s administration.

He also referenced Trump’s comments about Barack Obama, the proposal to name an ocean after the president and the 2020 election, saying the Reflecting Pool had looked like “s***” on the day of the result.

Leavitt had appeared on Maher’s program, an appearance Trump praised in his post before calling Maher a “dumb sleazebag.”

Trump said Maher had made numerous other false claims but that he would not spend time fact-checking him. “Bill: Don’t call anymore,” he wrote.

He further accused Maher of being afraid to acknowledge what Trump described as the country’s strong performance and the damage caused by Democrats.

“If I hadn’t won the Election, it would be DEAD!” Trump wrote. He also renewed his criticism of the laughter on Maher’s program and said Republicans would no longer promote the comedian as a transformative figure.

“You’re not transformative, you’re a Loser!” Trump added, declaring that Maher’s program amounted to “FAKE NEWS” that he would never watch again.

During her appearance, Leavitt said Trump had sent his regards. “I told him I was coming on the show and he said, ‘Tell him he loved that dinner and he knows it,’” she recalled.

Maher replied that he did enjoy the dinner before engaging in a discussion with Leavitt, a mother of two, about her time at the White House.

At one point, Maher said he did not care about the criticism surrounding the gathering.

“I like the ballroom! America does need a ballroom. It’s the United States of America,” he said.

Maher also told Leavitt that Trump was “far more sane than the last [president]” and described him as “far more energetic.”

Trump’s post came just days after he told reporters that his dinner with Kid Rock, Stephen A. Smith and Maher had been “great.” He said the group had enjoyed itself, discussed “everything” and stayed for a long time.

Maher previously described Trump as “gracious and measured” during what he characterized as a positive meeting with the president in March 2025.

The comedian has criticized Trump regularly on his HBO show for more than a decade. The two were also involved in a lawsuit after Maher claimed Trump’s father was an orangutan.
