Colt Ford Net Worth

What is Colt Ford’s Net Worth?

Colt Ford is an American country rap musician, songwriter, entrepreneur, and former professional golfer who has a net worth of $4 million.

Colt Ford is best known for helping popularize the country-rap sound that blended Southern hip-hop, country storytelling, rock guitars, hunting-and-fishing imagery, and rural party anthems. He built a grassroots audience through albums such as “Ride Through the Country,” “Chicken & Biscuits,” “Every Chance I Get,” and “Declaration of Independence,” often collaborating with mainstream country stars while operating slightly outside the traditional Nashville system. His biggest mainstream songwriting credit came with “Dirt Road Anthem,” which he co-wrote with Brantley Gilbert before Jason Aldean turned it into a massive country hit. Ford also co-wrote Gilbert’s “Country Must Be Country Wide” and later George Birge’s “Mind on You.” As co-founder of Average Joes Entertainment, Ford helped create a home for artists working at the intersection of country, rap, Southern rock, and independent touring culture.

Early Life

Colt Ford was born Jason Farris Brown on August 27, 1969, in Athens, Georgia. He grew up in Georgia and developed interests in both music and sports. Long before he became known as a country-rap artist, Ford was a competitive golfer.

He played professional golf, including time on the Nationwide Tour, before shifting his focus toward music. That golf background later remained part of his identity, giving him a different path into entertainment than most country performers. Rather than coming up through Nashville publishing rooms or honky-tonks alone, Ford arrived with the perspective of an athlete, songwriter, businessman, and Southern storyteller.

Music Career

Ford released his debut album, “Ride Through the Country,” in 2008 through Average Joes Entertainment, the label he co-founded. The album introduced his signature mix of spoken-word country delivery, rap cadence, and rural subject matter. It included songs such as “No Trash in My Trailer” and the title track “Ride Through the Country,” featuring John Michael Montgomery.

The debut also included Ford’s original version of “Dirt Road Anthem,” co-written with Brantley Gilbert. The song later became much more widely known after Jason Aldean recorded it for the album “My Kinda Party” and released it as a single. Aldean’s version became one of the defining country-rap crossover songs of the early 2010s and helped validate the sound Ford had been building.

Albums and Collaborations

Ford followed his debut with “Chicken & Biscuits” in 2010. The album continued his blend of country themes and hip-hop structure and included collaborations with artists from both country and rap-adjacent worlds.

In 2011, he released “Every Chance I Get,” which included “Country Thang” featuring Eric Church and “She Likes to Ride in Trucks” featuring Craig Morgan. His 2012 album “Declaration of Independence” became one of his most commercially successful projects and reached #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. It included “Answer to No One,” “Back” featuring Jake Owen, and “Drivin’ Around Song” featuring Jason Aldean.

Ford continued recording with “Thanks for Listening,” “Love Hope Faith,” “We the People, Volume 1,” and “Must Be the Country.” Across those projects, he collaborated with artists including Jamey Johnson, Toby Keith, Jermaine Dupri, Bone Crusher, Montgomery Gentry, Darius Rucker, Brad Paisley, Walker Hayes, and others.

Songwriting and Average Joes Entertainment

Ford’s most important financial and creative lane may be songwriting and independent music entrepreneurship. He co-founded Average Joes Entertainment, a label that became closely associated with country rap, Southern rock, and independent touring acts. The label was important because it gave Ford and related artists a platform outside the more traditional major-label Nashville system.

As a songwriter, Ford had major success with “Dirt Road Anthem,” “Country Must Be Country Wide,” and “Mind on You.” Those songs showed that his influence was not limited to his own recordings. Other artists could take his rural rap-country vocabulary and turn it into mainstream country radio success.

Health Issues and Heart Attack

Ford has dealt with several serious health challenges. In 2021, he was diagnosed with eye cancer and underwent treatment. In 2022, he was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder that can affect muscles in the face, eyes, throat, and other parts of the body.

In April 2024, Ford suffered a major heart attack after performing at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Gilbert, Arizona. He was hospitalized in intensive care and later described the episode as nearly fatal. His recovery required significant rehabilitation, including relearning how to walk. After losing weight and making major lifestyle changes, Ford returned to touring.

Personal Life

Ford married his wife Megan in October 2023. He has spoken publicly about how important her support was during his recovery from his 2024 heart attack.
