Alabama Sheriff Requests FBI Investigation After Jailers Charged With Sexually Assaulting Juvenile Inmates

An Alabama sheriff’s office has asked the FBI to investigate possible civil rights violations after two of its juvenile jail officers were charged with sexually assaulting inmates in the facility.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Kentavious Miller, 32, was charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy, and Labradford Jamell Armistad, 35, was charged with seven counts of sodomy.

Montgomery County Assistant Chief Deputy Wesley Dickerson said that Miller’s charges related to an incident earlier this month, and the charges against Armistad were a series of attacks on a different 14-year-old boy that took place between October 15 and November 15, WTVM reported.

“This is an extremely disturbing situation, and to be frank, I’m absolutely appalled at what the evidence has revealed in this case,” Richerson said.

Richerson said on Monday that the director of the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility notified the sheriff’s department on Wednesday. Miller was arrested that day, and Armistad was taken into custody on Friday. Both lost their jobs.

Richerson said one of the suspects is out of jail on bond and the other remains behind bars.
