Aussies are racing into Aldi stores after shoppers noted that the budget supermarket chain is selling a dupe for a popular treat – and it’s almost half the price.

One of the latest ‘Limited Time Only’ product releases to drop in the freezer section at Aldi is the Orchard & Vine Chocolate Coated Berries.

The frozen treat is available in two varieties: Strawberries Dipped in White & Milk Chocolate or Raspberries Dipped in White & Dark Chocolate, with both options priced at $5.99 for a 150g bag.

But some Aussie treat lovers were quick to observe that the latest Aldi sweet release  is eerily reminiscent of another popular frozen treat, sold at Woolworths for $11.90.

‘BOMBERRY DUPE,’ alerted one Victorian Aldi shopper in a recent online discussion post, sharing a picture of the frozen item they’d picked up at a Geelong store – and it quickly whipped up a frenzy of online discussion.

‘I want these so bad,’ one shopper confirmed.

‘I need to plan a trip to Aldi to get these, they look delicious,’ another agreed.

One person even joked: ‘I didn’t look for them because I know I’d eat the whole bag myself.’

A few lucky Aldi customers had already managed to get their hands on the copycat dessert – and confirmed it lived up to high expectations.

‘I bought the raspberry ones yesterday and have eaten them all lol. So flipping good!!’ one replied.

‘If you’re reading this and haven’t tried them yet… jump on them, they’re so yum!’ another confirmed.

But several Aldi customers lamented that they struggled to find the popular item in their local store.

‘I’m still yet to find them,’ one complained.

Another shopper tried to discourage hoarding of the in-demand Aldi buy, commenting that shoppers should considerately ‘just buy one single packet so everybody else can try some’.

Australian food blogger Nectro Vlangos, better known as @nectoriouspapi, was also among the lucky ones to spot the cold treat in his local Aldi store.

‘Aldi has got chocolate covered strawberries. It’s double dipped in white and milk chocolate,’ he declared in a recent Instagram video that’s been viewed over 1.2 million times. ‘There’s also dark chocolate raspberries – 84 calories per serve.’

‘Let’s quickly try them,’ Nectro said straight after he’d purchased a pack, taking a choc-coated strawberry straight from the bag and biting into it.

‘The chocolate is so yum,’ the food blogger confirmed. ‘Really nice milk and white chocolate.’

He did, however, note that eating them straight away like he did – rather than following the back-of-pack instructions to let them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes to soften – is definitely not recommended.

Nectro laughed that otherwise you might ‘break your jaw or your tooth’.

‘But overall, these are mad,’ he confirmed.

The hundreds of comments on Nectro’s video saw many point out the unmissable similarity between these and the wildly popular treat, Bomberry.

Woolworths currently stocks three varieties of Bomberry: Dark & White Chocolate Raspberries, Milk & White Chocolate Raspberries, and Milk & White Chocolate Blueberries. They are each sold in a 150g tub and priced at $11.90.

‘Omg yum, they look just like Bomberry but bigger. Will have to try these,’ read one excited reply.

‘Looks like there’s an Aldi version,’ another added.

One person wrote: ‘Was only just saying how good Bomberry would be in strawberry!’

Another cheeky reply simply read: ‘Bomberry, who?’

Several responses to the post  also noted that there was a similarity between the new Orchard & Vine Aldi product and another overseas frozen supermarket dessert: Tru Fru.

One excited comment to Nector’s video said: ‘Tru Fru in Australia?!’

But overwhelmingly, the majority of replies were from Aldi customers who couldn’t wait to head in store – and had their fingers crossed that they would soon have the cool and trendy treat in their hot little hands.
