What started as a routine Airtasker booking has turned into a hotly debated dating story, after an Adelaide woman revealed she’s going on a date with the handyman she hired to build her furniture.
The caller, named Kara, left radio hosts and listeners stunned after sharing her unconventional love story on KIIS 1023’s Ben & Liam in the Morning, admitting even her friends think she’s ‘completely insane’ for agreeing to the date.
The pair first crossed paths when Kara moved into a new apartment and needed help assembling a flat-pack TV unit she had purchased through Facebook Marketplace.
Rather than simply completing the job and moving on, the handyman made a lasting impression.
‘We got along so well that I decided to go on a date with him this Saturday,’ Kara told the hosts.
At first, Ben and Liam appeared intrigued by the unexpected romance.
But one particular detail quickly shifted the conversation from sweet meet-cute to a potential warning sign.
During the job, Kara revealed the tradie had taken his shirt off while assembling the furniture.

‘Did he take his shirt off because he was getting hot?’ one of the hosts asked.
‘Yes, he did,’ Kara replied.
‘That does change everything,’ came the immediate response.
The revelation prompted concerns from both the hosts and listeners, with many questioning whether the move was innocent or part of a well-rehearsed strategy.
‘I think you have reason to be suspicious because he probably does this every weekend,’ one host joked.
‘I reckon his side hustle is picking up chicks on Airtasker,’ Liam added.
What followed was an impromptu relationship tribunal, with callers weighing in on whether Kara should proceed with the date.
One listener, Stacey, didn’t hold back.
The hosts initially seemed supportive of the budding romance, but became increasingly sceptical as more details emerged. ‘Now I’m starting to think maybe you shouldn’t go on the date,’ Liam admitted during the discussion. Pictured: Host Ben Harvey
‘Oh, red flags,’ she said.
‘The moment he took his shirt off, I was like, what’s going on here? He’s building a flat pack. Also, it’s June.’

Ben was equally cautious, suggesting the handyman’s behaviour could indicate he regularly uses jobs as an opportunity to meet women.
Others, however, saw nothing wrong with the situation.
Some listeners argued the pair had connected organically and that meeting through a service app was no different from matching on a dating platform.
One caller summed up the more optimistic view, joking: ‘If he can build a flat-pack and looks good doing it, take the win.’
‘I’d say this isn’t the first time he’s used these tactics to get a date. But also, good on him,’ another follower commented.
For now, listeners will have to wait and see whether Kara’s risky romance turns into a fairytale ending, or if it serves as a cautionary tale about mixing business with pleasure.
