Sore heads and smudged eyeliner were the order of the day across Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Monday after the champagne-soaked hens’ party of high-profile defamation lawyer Rebekah Giles.
Giles swapped concerns notices for cocktails on Sunday as she celebrated in style at Lady Chu, with a ’90s Hong Kong glamour-themed dress code.
The Potts Point haunt was transformed into the ‘Lucky Price Mahjong Club’ for the afternoon, where lychee martinis flowed over dim sum and dance music.
Dressed in colourful cheongsams, satin slips and sky-high stilettos, some appeared to interpret the brief as Rose Porteous chic, with lacquered glamour, opulence and excess reminiscent of Hong Kong’s golden nightclub era.
Bek’s inner circle – comprising an eclectic Who’s Who of law, media, sport and high society – wholeheartedly embraced the theme, with the bride-to-be making her entrance arm-in-arm with daughters Allegra and Mimi.
Interestingly, we noticed one prominent fashion figure in streetwear nearby. While she had been invited to the party, it seems she wanted a break from dressing up after a hectic few days at Fashion Week. But more on her later…

The guest list included Jasmine Stefanovic, wife of outgoing Today host Karl Stefanovic, and finance executive Kristine Goodwin, the wife of Sydney Swans’ Director of Coaching and Performance Simon Goodwin.
They were joined by AFL WAG Georgia Stirton, who is married to GWS Giants captain Toby Greene.
Also present was leading defamation silk Sue Chrysanthou SC, fresh off her bruising cross-examination of Rebel Wilson, as well as socialite Ellie Aitken, wife of Regal Partners investment director Charlie Aitken.
The media contingent was well-represented too.
Sarah Stinson, Seven’s director of morning TV, was arguably the most influential among them.
Then there was Sky News Australia host and Walkley ‘Scoop of the Year’ winner Sharri Markson, who turned up in the same outfit as yours truly.
The Real Housewives of Sydney stars Matty Samaei and Krissy Marsh, Olympian Harry Garside – whom Giles represented in 2023 – and Sheeva Tavakoli, wife of Sydney plastic surgeon Dr Kourosh Tavakoli, rounded out the glittering crowd.
The festivities marked the beginning of what friends are mischievously calling Bek’s ‘third, and surely final, crack at happily ever after’.

Late arrival Pip Edwards ignored the dress code after a busy week at Australian Fashion Week
At one stage, her best friend Taryn Williams joked that the previous two husbands were merely part of an extended audition process.
Bek’s husband-to-be is Melbourne property developer Tim Price.
The couple are set to host a black-tie occasion at the Sydney Opera House next month, before decamping to Europe for a second round of nuptials.
Naturally, one wedding is simply never enough.
The long-time lovebirds were introduced by their mutual friend Brae Sokolski.
They welcomed a child together in 2020 and split their time between Sydney and Melbourne as they juggle family life with their respective high-powered careers.
And in the afternoon’s most delicious subplot, activewear mogul Pip Edwards was spotted perched at a neighbouring venue for sundowners.
While whispers swirled that the P.E Nation co-founder had staged a strategic gatecrash, it turns out she had indeed been invited to Bek’s knees-up but politely declined after a punishing Fashion Week schedule.
