Usha Vance has been making headlines this week after she fired back an epic response to the New York Times’ analysis of her maternity wardrobe – and it’s putting quite the spotlight on her pregnancy style as the Second Lady.
Vance, who is expecting her fourth child with Vice President JD Vance, took aim at the newspaper after its fashion critic used a Father’s Day video of the couple to examine what it described as the wider political messaging around prominent pregnant women in the Trump administration.
However, the Second Lady, 40, punctured the high-brow analysis with a receipt, sharing that her dress in the video was actually from Old Navy.
‘Now that we know the political significance of my $8.75 coral maternity dress from Old Navy, can’t wait to hear what the New York Times has to say about my elastic-waistband pants and compression socks!’ Vance wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
She paired the post with a screenshot showing the dress had originally been priced at $49.99 before being marked down to $12.49, with a further $3.74 taken off through promotional discounts.
The piece, which was written by Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman, examined the public pregnancies of Vance, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Katie Miller, wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.
Friedman noted that Vance was wearing a ‘stretchy coral dress’ in the Father’s Day video that emphasized her pregnancy, and said the video offered a particularly direct public introduction to the couple’s coming arrival.
Now, as she approaches her due date in July, the Daily Mail is taking a look back at Vance’s maternity wardrobe, which appears to be a mix of high-low pieces and even some fashion repeats.

Vance first announced her pregnancy in January, sharing with the world that they were expecting a baby boy with the couple already parents to sons, Ewan, eight, and Vivek, five, and a daughter, four-year-old Mirabel.
Shortly after the announcement, in February, she appeared alongside her husband as they visited the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan, Armenia.
Vance seemingly covered up her bump in a dark green, double-face wool coat by designer Mackage, which retails for a little over $1,000.
However, it appears that she has owned the coat for quite a while, as she wore it the year prior in February 2025 while the couple visited Germany.
She paired the look with a pair of camel-colored, knee-high boots by Stuart Weitzman, which are currently on sale for $224 on the Outnet, marked down from $895.
While attending a reception hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in February, she debuted an elegant, cream-colored dress complete with a turtleneck by brand Toccin, which retails for $325.
The lawyer paired the winter dress with a pair of $1,895, dark beige, suede leather boots by Manolo Blahnik – a favorite of Melania Trump’s that she also wore during her husband’s inauguration in 2025.
She sported what appeared to be the same turtleneck dress again during an on-camera interview on Fox later that month with Lara Trump, as she and her husband spoke about their life in office.

In March, the lawyer also showed off some seriously stylish outfits, as she wore a casual green gown to meet the Taoiseach of Ireland Micheál Martin and his wife Mary O’Shea.
The midi dress, which featured a high neck and plisse detailing on it, appeared to be made by Atlein.
It’s no longer for sale on their website, but the dress is available to rent on Rent the Runway, and costs $104 to buy from their platform.
Later that month, while visiting Michigan with JD, she opted for another casual-chic look, this time, wearing all white as she was seen stepping on and off Air Force Two.
She paired a cream-colored sweater with a matching maxi skirt, tying the look all together with what appeared to be an oversized, cream coat from Toccin.
The coat, which she wore with a dark brown leather purse, is currently on sale at Saks Fifth Avenue for $582, marked down from $1,295.
Vance wore another Toccin look to show off the bump in April, looking every inch the doting mom as she joined the Vice President on a trip to visit Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary.
She looked springtime-appropriate in the brand’s lilac midi dress, which featured a short-sleeve, cashmere sweater on top with a silk skirt.

The dress is currently on sale at Neiman Marcus for around $300, marked down from $595.
Recently, she wore an adorable dress by designer Milly to celebrate Military Mother’s Day at the White House, re-wearing it to film for her summer reading challenge.

She wore a pair of black suede heels with the dress.
And, of course, one of her most recent looks, if not now the most famous, was her coral dress from Old Navy, as she rapidly approaches her due date.
The affordable dress featured an off-the-shoulder, asymmetrical neckline and a midi length.
In the video with her husband, Usha tells the Vice President that their growing family means he will have many more years of reading to children.
‘Luckily, there’s going to be a new baby for you to read to,’ she says in the video. ‘So you’re going to have many more years ahead of you.’
JD Vance replies: ‘I was not yet ready to be out of the baby phase, so here we are, about to jump right in, in just a few short weeks.’
