Set in Egypt during the reign of Cleopatra, Assassin’s Creed Origins is often regarded as one of the greatest installments in the beloved Ubisoft franchise, and yet, still somehow remains underrated. Released back in 2017 as the tenth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey follows the story of Bayek of Siwa, a Medjay who teams up with his wife Aya in order to seek revenge for the murder of their son. As such, the pair go on to found the Assassin’s Brotherhood and begin the long-running conflict with the Templar Order.
Not only did Assassin’s Creed Origins show us the very beginning of the Assassin’s Brotherhood which we have been a part of since the Assassin’s Creed franchise began back in 2007, but it also offered players an incredible story, voice acting, world design, historical accuracy, and much more, and, as a result, it received positive reviews from critics and the general audience alike.
Selling over 10 million copies since launch, Assassin’s Creed Origins truly deserves the hype, but now that the beloved Ubisoft title is fast approaching its tenth anniversary, one YouTuber has found a way to give it a modern-day makeover.
The unofficial makeover comes courtesy of Digital Dreams on YouTube who has pushed the boundaries of Assassin’s Creed Origins‘ capabilities by running it at an incredible 8K thanks to the help of the RTX 5090, extreme ray tracing, and ultra settings. The results are quite phenomenal, adding photorealistic graphics to the game and so you really feel as though you are trudging through the sands of Egypt with Bayek.
You can almost feel the sun beating down on his back as he walks through stretching deserts and maneuvers his way through bustling towns, and it is not long before he heads down to the Nile bathed in golden, afternoon sunshine. If you are not a fan of photorealistic graphics, this unofficial remaster is not for you, but if you are, you are in luck as Digital Dreams details all the ways that they achieved this feat.
With the video posted earlier this year, there has been plenty of time for fans of Assassin’s Creed Origins to come forward with their thoughts on this 8K remaster, and it seems as though many agree that it looks incredible.
“When you walked through that patch of flowers by the riverbed and the character extended his right hand a bit outwards, I could not but think of the scene from Gladiator. What a beautiful game!” One comment read. Another added to the praise, commenting, “Great lighting and shaders, amazing texture loading, and great visual fidelity (vegetation subsurface scattering, etc.). All of it runs flawlessly without even using features like DLSS Frame Generation.”
However, another user thinks that, despite not even celebrating its 10th anniversary just yet, Assassin’s Creed Origins needs a remaster. “Wouldn’t mind a remaster,” they shared. “Finishing it right now in 2026 for the first time, 5k + RTGI. Sadly, there are tons of very low-res textures on the ground and rocks. Honestly, the game would shine even more if they would release a 4K texture patch. Or better: Ubi should stop its stupid policy with modding and allow it.”
At the time of writing, there is currently no whiff of an Assassin’s Creed Origins remaster, but with the Ubisoft title capable of looking as stunning as this unofficial remaster, we can only imagine how modern-day hardware would treat it.
