It’s been over 7 years since the release of the last entry in the Devil May Cry franchise, and while recent TV adaptations and even a mobile game have helped fill the void, it isn’t the same as a brand-new release. With Devil May Cry 5 still being played these years later for its excellent combat systems and creative storytelling, the series clearly isn’t being forgotten anytime soon.
Thankfully, the popularity of Devil May Cry and its most recent entry hasn’t gone unnoticed by Capcom, as a recent document officially published by the studio itself is offering some of the best news we’ve heard in years for the iconic action franchise’s return.
As noted by Wario64 on X, Capcom has recently released a document outlining their earnings summary for 2026 and growth plans for 2027, which notably includes an overview of several of the most iconic franchises that they plan to grow in the future as a part of their new business model.
While much of the document praises the success of Capcom’s best-selling titles like the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil franchises, the list of brands that the studio wants to create “New IP, sequels, remakes, ports,” and more, for a selection that notably includes none other than the hack-and-slash series Devil May Cry.
Even if it shares the same position as several other classic franchises like Dragon’s Dogma, Ace Attorney, and Dead Rising, the document specifically highlights that Devil May Cry 5 managed to sell a staggering 2.71M units globally in 2026 alone as Capcom’s sixth best-selling game of the year.
As if managing to beat out more entries like both Monster Hunter Wilds and Monster Hunter Rise wasn’t enough, it’s even more impressive considering the game came out over half a decade ago, and is still topping Capcom’s charts with a total of 12.94M lifetime unit sales that doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
While the popularity of the television show is the most likely cause why Devil May Cry 5 suddenly saw a spike in sales over the past year, it’s hard not to be excited over Capcom officially recognizing its success, and adding even more fuel to the fire of the current remake rumors with its promise of supporting their older catalog titles more moving forward.
Given that the older Devil May Cry titles still suffer from being far more difficult and less beginner-friendly than the recent entries in the series, the confirmation of a remake to let all the new fans experience the origins of the series while satisfying long-time players would be a fantastic sight to see.
Even putting a remake aside, the Devil May Cry franchise still has plenty of potential for new entries, pushing it forward as well, and with how much Capcom has prioritized their best-selling franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter already, it’s likely only a matter of time until we hear about the next official project from the series to look forward to.
