Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episode 8!
Invincible season 3 has come to a close, and I can’t believe that the season completely ignored the biggest twist from Invincible season 2. Despite being fairly faithful to the original comic series, Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible show has played with the timeline a bit, moving some elements of the story around. This has raised a lot of questions about Invincible‘s handling of the Viltrumite War storyline, which seems to be getting pushed to season 4. While this is fine, it does mean that Invincible season 3 ignored season 2’s most consequential reveal.
Invincible season 3’s finale was a big one, with it seeing Mark take on his biggest threat yet: Conquest. Conquest is a Viltrumite warrior who arrives on Earth not long after the events of the Invincible War, and there is hardly a worse time that he could have arrived. The already worn Mark Grayson has to face off against Conquest, and although he pulls through at the end, it is only after a lot of damage and destruction. However, some of this damage could have been avoided if season 3 remembered Invincible season 2’s ending.
Nolan’s Books & The Viltrumites’ Weaknesses Weren’t Mentioned In Invincible Season 3 At All
After Being A Big Twist In Season 2
The reveal surrounding Nolan Grayson’s books was one of the biggest moments in Invincible season 2, yet they weren’t mentioned in season 3 at all. While living on Earth, Omni-Man’s human alter ego was Nolan Grayson, a novelist. One of the types of books that Nolan wrote were sci-fi stories, although he kept these stories a secret. When Allen the Alien came to Earth to recruit Mark, he learned that Nolan’s sci-fi books were actually catalogues of Viltrumite weaknesses from across the galaxy. Thus, they would be a huge asset to the Coalition of Planets.

Invincible Confirms Why Cecil Is Secretly One Of The Show’s Most Powerful Characters
Despite Invincible having plenty of strong heroes, Cecil has proven to be surprisingly powerful, and season 3’s Invincible War just confirmed it.
Allen scanned the books and headed back into space in Invincible season 2, and it was assumed that this story would come back in season 3. However, it never did. Allen and Nolan were never shown to be hunting these Viltrumite weaknesses, with their entire season 3 story centering around their time in the Viltrumite prison. When they break out and escape the Viltrum Empire, they aren’t really seen again. While this story could come back in season 4, it was weird for Invincible season 3 to ignore it after it being such a big deal in season 2.
When Nolan’s Books Will Become Important, According To The Invincible Comics
They Should Play A Big Role In Season 4
Now that Allen the Alien and Nolan are out of prison, Nolan’s books have to become important next time we see them. In the comics, Allen and Nolan go back to the Coalition’s home planet after breaking out of prison. Nolan joins the cause, with Thaedus sending Allen and Nolan out on a mission. The duo is tasked with rounding up these Viltrumite weaknesses, with the Coalition believing that things like the Rognarr, Space Racer’s gun, and the Scourge Virus will help them in their battle against the Viltrum Empire.
Based on the comics, Allen and Nolan will probably spend most of Invincible season 3 rounding these Viltrumite weaknesses up, with the Viltrumit War likely being the climax of season 4. While getting these things, the duo will also be tasked with recruiting other beings who are strong enough to take on Viltrumites. Allen and Nolan will have to work with characters like Battle Beast, Space Racer, Tech Jacket, and Mark and Oliver Grayson. Preparing for the Viltrumite War will be a tough task, but Nolan’s books will be key to success.
The Battle Against Conquest Proves Mark Should’ve Paid More Attention To Omni-Man’s Books
Mark Should Have At Least Checked Them
It is difficult for Mark to beat Conquest, and although he pulls it off, he missed an obvioius step that would have made things much easier. Rather than relying on hitting Conquest to death, Mark should have pulled from Omni-Man’s books.

Invincible’s larger superhero community appears in big and small roles across season 3’s “What Have I Done?,” setting up the show’s future.
Mark knows that his father’s books list Viltrumite weaknesses, so it is weird that he didn’t even try to reference them before Conquest’s arrival. While he was immediately occupied with Conquest after he appeared, he could have communicated with Eve or Cecil, telling them to check. Although it would have been impossible to get things like the Rognarr or the Scourge Virus, it seems out of character for Mark not to at least mention the books in the Invincible season 3 finale.
