Keke Palmer Is a Nosy Neighborhood Sleuth in ‘The ‘Burbs’ Debut Teaser

In 1989, Tom Hanks paired with filmmaker Joe Dante (Gremlins) for what would become perhaps the most cult-classic film from the iconic actor’s catalogue. Titled The ‘Burbs, the dark comedy flick served as a satirical look at life in the suburbs where Hanks’ character begins to believe that his new neighbors are up to something nefarious. Fast-forward 36 years, and audiences are preparing to visit a very similar universe in the upcoming Peacock series of the same name. Today, the streamer has dropped a debut teaser for the Keke Palmer-led series that will make you want to double-check the locks on your doors. Set for a debut on February 8, all eight episodes of the horror comedy production will be available at once, which is great, because the teaser definitely points to this one being the perfect binge.

Perfectly set to Doechii’s “Anxiety,” our first look at The ‘Burbs follows Palmer’s deeply paranoid character, who has just moved into her husband’s childhood home. From her front window, she looks at the abandoned pink house across the street that has been vacant for years and years. After chatting with her fellow nosy neighbors, she learns that the previous tenants had a daughter who may or may not have died inside the house, leading the community of armchair sleuths to dive into the case and unravel the mystery.

In addition to Palmer, The ‘Burbs will also feature performances from Jack Whitehall (The Afterparty), Julia Duffy (Palm Royale), Paula Pell (Girls5eva), Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows), and Kapil Talwalkar (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist). The reimagining of the classic Hanks and Dante movie of yesteryear was created by Celeste Hughey (Dead to Me), who also serves as a writer alongside Rachel Shukert (The Handmaid’s Tale). Palmer, Hughey, and Shukert join the team of executive producers alongside Fuzzy Door’s Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Aimee Carlson, Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, Natalie Berkus, and Nzingha Stewart, who also directs. Dana Olsen serves as a co-executive producer.

What Else Is Keke Palmer Up To?

In addition to her role as the neighborhood’s newest nosy resident in The ‘Burbs, Palmer has a stacked list of other projects dotting her docket. She’ll next join Demi Moore, Naomi Ackie, and more in Boots Riley’s sci-fi comedy feature, I Love Boosters, and will follow that up with a bit of voice work in The Angry Birds Movie 3. Finally, she’s slated to join a painfully funny cast that includes Mel Brooks and Rick Moranis in the highly anticipated and long-awaited Spaceballs 2.

Check out the first look teaser at The ‘Burbs above and stream all eight episodes on Peacock February 8.
