16 years after the Lost series finale, Hurley and Sawyer are back on a plane together.
Hugo “Hurley” Reyes (Jorge Garcia) and James “Sawyer” Ford (Josh Holloway) were two of the most important characters in the hit series. Despite their differences, the two Oceanic Flight 815 survivors became friends during their time on the island, and they stepped up into leadership roles at critical points. Working together to get the Dharma Initiative van running in season 3, episode 10, “Tricia Tanaka is Dead” and their ping pong game in season 3, episode 11, “Enter 77” are among some of their most iconic moments together.
Now, the Hurley and Sawyer actors are sitting next to each other on a plane in a new commercial for Royal Kingdom. The advertisement opens with Garcia remarking that “last time we were on a plane, it didn’t end well.” As the turbulence escalates, the two stars calmly discuss the “shaky” experience of playing other mobile games and how Royal Kingdom avoids these issues, all while their fellow passengers loudly panic. After encouraging viewers to download the game, the footage ends with the reveal that they are on a plane set. Check out the commercial below:
The humorous homage to Lost is a sign of how the show’s popularity continues to endure, even 22 years after debuting on ABC and 16 years after the final episode. Along with being a massive success while it aired, and forever changing the way television was made and watched, the series has found new audiences since its conclusion, with all six seasons streaming at various points on Netflix, Hulu, and other platforms.
Since 2010, many shows have been seen as potentially becoming the next Lost, with From, Manifest, Yellowjackets, and Silo being among those who have drawn comparisons to the ABC series. Despite the occasional rumor, there has never been any confirmation of any kind of sequel or reboot, with the cast and creators often voicing their satisfaction with how the show turned out, and they have now moved on to other projects instead.
After Lost ended, Josh Holloway played the leading roles of Gabriel Vaughn in Intelligence, Will Bowman in Colony, and Jim Ellis in Duster. He also had a recurring role in Yellowstone season 3. Intelligence was not well-received and was canceled after one season, but Colony has a 92% critics’ score and 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it ran for three seasons. Duster‘s reviews were excellent, leading to another 92% critics’ score, yet it was not renewed for season 2.
Yellowstone helped revive the popularity of Westerns, and it is a genre that Holloway has returned to with the upcoming movie Flint, which is based on the novel of the same name by Louis L’Amour. As for Garcia, his post-Lost credits include Hawaii Five-O, How I Met Your Mother, Bookie, Alcatraz, and Once Upon a Time. Future movies he is starring in are When We Were Pirates and Mick Skylark: Gold Prodigy.
