Original Tangled Voice Star Wants To Play Rapunzel's Mom In Disney's New Live-Action Remake

One of the famous stars of Disney’s Tangled would be open to playing a critical cameo role in the upcoming live-action iteration.

After being temporarily shelved, Disney is moving forward with plans for Tangled to be the next in its lineup of remakes, following the live-action Moana arriving in theaters this July. The live-action Tangled will star Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn as Gothel — and original star Mandy Moore recently commented that she would be happy to join them.

Moore, who voices Rapunzel in the 2010 edition, recently told Entertainment Tonight that she would be open to guest-starring as Rapunzel’s mother, the queen, in the new Tangled. When asked if she would want to step into this role, with many people fan-casting her, Moore said, “Sure, I would love to,” going on to say that she is excited for the remake.

Rapunzel’s parents are officially named King Frederic and Queen Arianna, and do not have any spoken lines in the movie, but are voiced by Clancy Brown and Julie Bowen in the spinoff Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. Moore starred alongside Zachary Levi as Flynn and Donna Murphy as Gothel in Tangled, all delivering emotional voice acting and epic musical numbers.

Moore got her start with Disney, portraying Lana in The Princess Diaries, before achieving her true breakout with A Walk to Remember, going on to star in Saved!, Chasing Liberty, and This Is Us, as well as Tangled and its spinoff properties.

Moore’s new would-be co-stars also include Andor‘s Diego Luna, at this time the fourth and only other confirmed member of the live-action Tangled, in an original role written for the remake. With Queen Arianna being a small role, it would be the perfect place for Moore to do her cameo, though the part could be expanded for her, making it even more interesting to see who they would pair her with as King Frederic.

Disney has done casting like this before in the studio’s live-action remakes: While Moana‘s Dwayne Johnson is returning as Maui in live-action, more comparable is the casting of Tia Carrere, the original voice of Nani, as social worker Mrs. Kekoa in 2025’s Lilo & Stitch. Other examples include Ming-Na Wen and Jodi Benson appearing as side characters in the new versions of their respective Disney Princess movies (Mulan and The Little Mermaid).

Tangled reentering active development is indicative of Disney’s focus on remaking their 21st century animated classics, following Snow White‘s failure and Lilo & Stitch‘s success (as well as DreamWorks’ success with its own remake of How to Train Your Dragon). There are plenty of reasons to criticize the ongoing commitment to these remakes, but Mandy Moore making an appearance would at least be a treat for longtime Disney fans.

Tangled is slated for theatrical release in 2027.
