New details about 'The Wire' alum Bobby J. Brown's cause of death revealed after barn fire

New details about Bobby J. Brown’s cause of death have come to light, four months after he died in a tragic barn fire.

The “Wire” alum, who died at 62 in February of diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation, “had been consuming alcoholic beverages prior to death,” according to the autopsy and toxicology report obtained by Us Weekly on Wednesday.

Drugs, however, were not found in the actor’s system postmortem.

The actor’s carbon monoxide levels were 71 percent at the time of his passing, and “the vast majority” of his hair was “singed off.”

He suffered “fourth-degree burns,” as well as “thermal fractures of the ankles,” and skin was “absent from the left chest, a portion of the left arm and portions of the lower extremities.”

Brown was trying to jump-start the Cadillac in his Maryland barn ahead of his death, according to the harrowing 911 call his widow, Arlene, made at the time.

The building was “mostly engulfed” with Brown “trapped inside” when emergency responders arrived.

In addition to Arlene, the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” alum is survived by two adult children.

Brown’s rep mourned his client in February as a “rare soul who brought a deep sense of humanity to every role he played.”

The spokespeson added, “While many knew him for his strength as a champion boxer and his powerful screen presence, we knew him as a dedicated professional and a kind-hearted individual. He was a true joy to represent.”

His agent, meanwhile, gushed, “I am upset and saddened. He was such a good actor and person. He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting and was a joy to work with.”

Brown is best known for playing Officer Bobby Brown on “The Wire.”

His blood was 71 percent carbon monoxide postmortem.

The former boxer’s last acting gig was a role in “Mailman” in 2023.

Brown’s passing followed a slew of his former “Wire” co-stars’ deaths, with James Ransone’s suicide making headlines two months prior.

Cast members Charley Scalies and Al Brown both died in May 2025, while Michael K. Williams and Lance Reddick passed away in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
